I have been coming to happyfun for a few years now and my experience last night was one I felt I needed to document. Queer people and queer spaces need to do better to protect their own, especially POC. Last night there was a very intoxicated man at the bar, the bartenders served him although he was clearly way past his limit and also charged him twice for one drink. This already rubbed me the wrong way on behalf of the bartenders who I felt like were taking advantage of a weird situation. But, the man ended up joining my friends and I and immediately we were very concerned for his safety and wellbeing because he was completely incoherent, for about twenty mins we were trying to figure out what he took/whether he was alone/how he was going to get home safe. When it was clear that it was beyond our control, I told a bartender and they promptly kicked him out. This seemed wrong, lazy, and blatantly racist for so many reasons
I have always found happyfun to feel like a safe space for queer POC but I feel very disturbed by this attitude towards patrons who clearly needed help. There needs to be a community approach towards supporting patronsâŚitâs a bar with a dance floor in bushwickâŚpeople are going to be dancing, people are doing to be doing drugs. Ensuring safety should be a number 1 priority. Im sad to say that I wonât be...
Read moreI have never met ruder bartenders in my life. My girlfriend and I went and there were few people at the bar but my girlfriend was completely ignored while she patiently and respectfully waited. I came over and flagged over the bartender who clearly was not going to serve my girlfriend for whatever reason (?) - the bartender came over and she did not speak to us a single time: did not ask what we wanted, did not utter a SINGLE word. We said please, thank you, etc, and felt extremely confused, uncomfortable, and honestly sad. Because of how rude the bartender was, we did not leave a tip, specifically because she was nice to every other person we went with so it felt very targeted. Afterwards, we tried to order another drink and she ignored us - she actually walked over to us, said âhi,â in a sarcastic tone and walked away - her coworker told us it was because we didnât tip her. I have always, ALWAYS tipped as someone who worked in the service industry, but Iâve never experienced someone so indredibly cold and rude to the point where it ruined the rest...
Read moreThe bartender with short blonde hair was unbelievably rude and made so many mistakes. I ordered one drink and received only one drink but was charged for two drinks. My friend and I both explained calmly that I only ordered one and only got one, but the bartender INSISTED that they had served us two drinks and said they distinctly remembered, completely inaccurately. After way too much talking the bartender basically said, okay, I know you're just trying to scam me, but I'll give you a refund for one of the drinks. I signed a receipt for the refund. Today, I wake up, and instead of having a refund credit for the drink, I find that the bartender had actually CHARGED ME AGAIN for another drink and made the receipt look like a credit. I've never had a bad experience with a bartender in my life before this one, and it was AWFUL. I was called a liar, charged for something I never got, and then charged again where I was supposed to get a refund. Miserable human...
