Iggys is the quintessential New York City dive bar.
-Cheap Beer CHECK! -Cheap shots CHECK! -Rock music playing from the juke box CHECK!
This places meets all the requirements of a divey New York watering hole. The bathroom is even tagged up like the 4 train in the Dinkins era. This is a place knows that knows its role. Your not coming here for serenity or opulence. Your coming here to get hammered for cheap. Their happy hour lasts till 9pm and offers $3 drinks and shots.
I came here last night with a large group of yelpers and they did a great job of accommodating us. The bartenders got drinks out fast and did so with pleasant attitudes. They get bonus points from me because their juke box has Wu Tang Clan! That was a highlight of the night for me. Solid 4 stars here because Iggys got the job done and because Wu-Tang Clan ain't nothin to F* with.
Bonus: If your hungry order a burger from next door at Mikey's. The burger is extraordinary and they will deliver it to...
Read moreWe stopped into Iggy’s Keltic Lounge on a weekday afternoon while waiting for our tour in the Tenement Museum. It was exactly the kind of bar we love. It was laid-back, unpretentious, and full of personality. The very essence of a perfect dive bar. There were only a few people there, which made it feel like our own little hideaway.

We grabbed seats at the bar and enjoyed very cheap happy hour specials, which were a nice surprise for the East Village. The bartender was friendly and low-key, and the whole place had that cozy, worn-in vibe that makes you want to stay a while.
If you like bars that don’t try too hard, with good music and strong drinks, Iggy’s...
Read moreWow. Walked in to order a beer for myself and my wife, and the service was absolutely awful. Despite us clearly being over 21, they still asked for ID, which was fine, but things took a turn when we didn’t leave a tip. The server actually shouted at us—completely unprofessional.
What made it worse was the obvious homophobia from the server, and yet there's a queer flag behind the bar. It’s shocking. I've worked in New York and never experienced anything like this.
We don’t let people like this affect us, but if you're in the area, there are plenty of other fantastic bars that deserve your business. There are multiple stories here from others who’ve been scammed. Save yourself the trouble and...
