This is a lengthy one, so settle in….
Went here for a friend’s surprise birthday dinner at 8pm. I want to offer grace and say they were extremely overwhelmed with the amount of people at our table (21).
When we got to the restaurant and we informed the hostess we wanted the pre fixed menu. She replied that they only did it Monday-Friday to which we checked the website and found that wasn’t true. We did find, however, that in order to get a pre fixed menu, you had to complete a form online and make a deposit. She stated that she misheard him but he’d still be unable to do it. He asked if he could speak to a manager to see if maybe they’d make an exception since we were a large party and it would be easier all around to select from only a few dishes. He was willing to pay the deposit. The manager, Mo, was very hesitant to say yes at first stating that the person who created the menu cards had already left for the day but she’d check. She ended up giving us the pre-fixed to which we were all grateful. Just want to note that the menu card was literally the same one our friend found online they just had to type “Happy Birthday, __” on it. So not sure why she made it seem like such an obstacle….
Nonetheless…
The pre fixed menu is unlimited apps for one hour… they served us the apps about 30 mins in. They took a bit to clear the first set of apps before asking ONLY ONE THIRD, MAYBE HALF of the table if they wanted another round. Then immediately started taking entree orders. When they brought the second round of apps for the ends of the table but not the center and we asked for a 2nd round they said that the apps were done and grabbed the garlic bread from one end of the table, which had already been touched, brought it to the center and said “here”. So the “unlimited” apps for an hour was really just ONE round and then a “second” round for some because the it definitely wasn’t enough to feed everyone. If you’re going to say it’s unlimited, it should at least be two rounds of the same amount of food you brought for the first round.
Thankfully there were no issues with our entrees apart from a person in our party not liking their dish (she got drunken noodles and is pregnant but after trying it was afraid of heartburn). * They didn’t indicate the dish was spicy on the menu card which could be a problem for someone who doesn’t know Thai food like that. * They were helpful in replacing her dish with something else though. I will also note that they gave us takeout containers probably 15 minutes into our entrees which felt a bit rushed.
Then came dessert which was a small spoonful of vanilla ice cream with a pretty massive slice of chocolate cake marketed as a “hot fudge brownie”. By this time I was more than pretty full and intended on sharing the dessert with my bf and we asked if we could take whatever we didn’t finish and the other to go. The waitress, Yang, said we couldn’t which we thought was odd since we were paying for it. I had gone to take some photos of the birthday girl and when I came back Yang had given sushi roll containers for people to take the cake home. Made me wonder if she was just making up rules as she went.
We did indicate that it was someone’s birthday prior to them bringing desserts out but they brought sparklers out AFTER everyone had already been served and started eating their vanilla ice cream with “hot fudge brownie” which I found annoying.
Overall, props to Mo and Yang for trying their best even though it was clear they were not prepared for a party that large despite the reservation. I do feel like we made it a ton easier for them to request the pre fixed menu otherwise it would have been much more confusing with way more random dishes being ordered. I can’t imagine how terribly that could have gone.
Food: chicken lollipops and satay were so good. Drunken noodles were okay, not spicy enough for me. Sauce was kinda pasty. The chocolate cake was actually pretty rich and...
Read moreThis is a tricky one for me, because there were many great things here. First, the atmosphere is great; I love the pool and the Buddha, amongst other decor. The food is slightly pricey, but portions are relatively large, and I think the price is fair for the good ambiance. I liked most parts of the service as well -- our waitress helped us to take many nice pictures with the pool. On top of all that, they gave me a free shot for Father's Day, which was appreciated.
So everything sounds great right? Why am I leaving a mediocre rating? There were several concerns that tarnished my experience. 1) As I mentioned we went for Father's Day, and I called not once but twice (including the night before), to check whether the normal Sunday Happy Hour was on. I was assured both times it was. However, when we arrived, we were told that it was cancelled. That itself is a problem -- we would've happily gone another weekend instead, as our intention was to try the Happy Hour specials. But I was also surprised that the manager and staff did not seem to care when I told them. I've occasionally had situations like this elsewhere over my eating career, and typically a manager would do SOMEthing. You can give me a small % off, or send me a free drink or dessert or whatever. Ultimately, your staff misinformed me and tricked me into coming in when I otherwise would not have done so.
They charge a 3% upcharge to use a credit card. This is, of course, illegal. I don't hate this restaurant, so I won't report it, but it certainly costs a star. They should instead convert it to a cash discount to make it legal. But again, this is deceptive marketing practice as the menu prices are misleading.
They charged me an extra $1 on one item than what was listed on the menu. That's one of my pet peeves, when restaurants do this and expect customers won't notice, or "dare" to bring it up. Well I brought it up of course, even if it's just $1. They came back with subtracting $1 and the tax on it, but NOT the credit card upcharge on the mistaken price. So I still paid 3 cents for the mistake.
So you may get the picture after 1,2,3, that there's a lot of unpleasantness about trickery in pricing. Overall, what could have been a pretty pleasant experience became somewhat of an annoyance. I urge management to just not play these games, simply raise your prices if that's what you want to do, and IMO customers will have a...
Read moreAbsolutely Disgraceful Service on Easter Sunday – Never Again
I don’t usually write reviews, but the experience my family and I had at Jade on Easter Sunday was so unacceptable that I feel compelled to speak out. What was supposed to be a special holiday meal turned into a frustrating and embarrassing ordeal.
To begin with, the service was a complete disaster. While the rest of my family received their food in a timely manner, my entrée was completely forgotten. No explanation, no apology—just silence. I sat there watching everyone else eat, waiting patiently, assuming it would arrive shortly. It did not.
By the time my food finally arrived—after everyone else had finished their meals and were already eating dessert—I had lost all appetite and frankly, all patience. I politely refused the dish, as any reasonable person would. The staff’s mistake had already ruined the meal for me.
But what happened next was even more infuriating. The manager came over and, instead of offering a sincere apology, insisted that I pay for the meal I never received because I had ordered from the prix fixe Easter menu. Are you kidding me? How is it fair to force someone to pay for something that was never served on time, and clearly no longer wanted? The lack of accountability and basic hospitality was shocking.
What made this situation even worse was how the manager handled it. Instead of acknowledging their clear failure, they had the audacity to tell me that I should have gotten up and found my waitress when my food didn’t come. For the record, I did tell the person who brought out everyone else’s food that mine was missing. It is not the customer’s responsibility to chase down staff to correct the restaurant’s mistake—especially when it’s as obvious as one plate missing at a family table.
Jade completely failed on one of the busiest and most meaningful family dining days of the year. If they can’t handle a holiday service, they shouldn't offer it. The lack of care, respect, and professionalism was astounding.
I will never return to Jade, and I strongly advise others to think twice before choosing this place for any special occasion—or any...
