Food was honestly pretty yummy; service was poor and maybe a little racist!
Had a reservation for 2 at 6:15pm. I arrived a bit early at 6:05pm. When I arrived there were at least 6-7 open tables for 2 people, and there was no line of people waiting. And I’ll note my friend and I purposefully planned to arrive early in the hopes of having a quick dinner because I had a train to catch.
One server came to check in w me, I gave the reservation name, she said to hold on, and then went to talk to her colleague to check for the reservation on their iPad. I pointed to it and she said okay. Didn’t think much of it til a few minutes later, keep reading
They said they can’t seat me yet which I thought was a bit rude/poor service. I understand that some restaurants want a complete party before seating but for a party of 2, that didn’t make sense to me. Even if my friend was a no show, I still would have needed one of the 2 person tables to eat, and I was on time, so I think they should have sat me. But they asked me to step to the side.
Then a group of 3 or 4 came in, the server asked if they had a reservation, they said yes, they didn’t check the iPad or ask for what time the res was for, and they sat them immediately! Then another pair of folks came in who didn’t have a reservation were offered to sit at the bar while they wait to see if a table would be available. I just felt like I was experiencing differential treatment but still wasn’t tooooo upset yet.
It’s 6:10, I ask if I can be seated. The woman is irritated by this request but checks w her boss then seats me, and my friend arrives at the same time.
We settle in at our table for two and they serve us water, we look at menus and start gisting, eager to catch up. Note - There were at least 3 tables next to us that were still empty.
Then about 6:20, the waitress comes back and asks if they can move us to a different table to accommodate a larger party (of about at least 4) that was standing at the door. We did not have info on whether these folks had a reservation or whether they were walk in, or how big the party would be. But either way, the restaurant should NOT have asked us to move. If they had a res, the restaurant should have planned their spacing properly for all parties. If they did not have a res, they absolutely should not be asking guest who have a reservation (us) to move after we’ve already settled in. And yes we were the only Black people in that restaurant. Bc I needed to get dinner before my travel, I begrudgingly complied and we moved to an even smaller table for two. They say they’ll offer something complimentary as an apology.
We settle in again and try to enjoy our slim remaining time. We order two drinks (plum lemonades) for the gift items - horrible. Tasted like water with a cup of sugar stirred into it. Neither of us drank more than a few sips.
We order apps and food and everything comes in good time. The calamari app and the salmon miso ramen are quite delicious.
Then at about 645 we notice that the table they made us evacuate is still empty!! And the “large” group that had been by the door is seated elsewhere.
Then at 7 we notice the table they made us evacuate has a new party of two there. Idk it all felt VERY suspicious, a little bit, racist and, at minimum, very...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at a ramen restaurant that completely blew my mind. From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in for a treat. The atmosphere was cozy, yet modern, with dim lighting and soft music playing in the background. The decor was minimalistic, but stylish, with touches of traditional Japanese design. The restaurant was bustling, but not overwhelming, and there was a general sense of calm and relaxation. The ramen was served in a large, deep bowl, with perfectly cooked noodles that had just the right amount of chewiness. The broth was incredibly flavorful, with a complexity and depth that I had never experienced before. It was also surprisingly light and delicate, without feeling heavy or overpowering. But the ramen was not just delicious - it was also a work of art. The presentation was stunning, with vibrant colors and beautifully arranged toppings. The slices of pork were melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the soft-boiled egg was perfectly cooked, with a creamy yolk that blended beautifully with the broth. The noodles were topped with a generous helping of fresh scallions and nori, which added a wonderful crunch and a burst of flavor. I was completely blown away by how beautiful and delicious the dish was. The price of the meal was also very reasonable, especially considering the quality and quantity of food. I felt like I was getting an incredible value for my money, and I would have gladly paid more for the experience I had. The service was excellent throughout the meal, with the server checking in on me regularly and refilling my water without being intrusive. I felt well taken care of and appreciated as a customer. Overall, I would highly recommend this ramen restaurant to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience. From the friendly and knowledgeable service to the relaxing ambiance and, of course, the incredible food, everything about this restaurant was absolutely top-notch. I left feeling satisfied, happy, and eager to come back again soon. I have no doubt that this will go down as one of the best meals I have ever had, and I can't wait to tell all my friends and family about...
Read more(Last visited July 21, 2023.) Working in New York City for the week and my co-worker said he was craving ramen or something of the sort. I did some Yelp'ing as I do and found Kame! Here's why I liked it so much!
Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on the corner of 8th Avenue & 28th Street is this gem. Obviously there isn't a parking lot, but there's plenty of street parking around and I'm sure there are multiple parking structures somewhere around. The original location opened in a different part of the city in 2020 and maintained strength until a leasing dispute forced them to move to where they are now! Inside is a modern, chic, simplistic atmosphere with excellent mood lighting and chill music with no words.
Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but she was sweet, patient, helpful and just made sure we were well taken care of.
Food: I started with the beef bun and it was GOOD. It was so soft and flavorful. The meat wasn’t as tender as I’d like, but it was okay! Just a hint of sweetness. The gyoza was AMAZING. Probably the best I’ve ever had with a different shape, crispy skin, succulent pork that definitely was made fresh in house. The fried chicken was also amazing. It had sesame seeds, peanuts and scallions all on top of its good crispy skin. Mild spiciness and sweetness. DELICIOUS. The Spicy Salmon Ramen was very good. There was a very slight fishy taste, but it didn’t throw the whole dish off. The flavors worked well together and most importantly, the dish wasn’t overly salty.
Value: The beef buns are $6.00 each. The gyoza was $11.00 and you get 5 pieces. The fried chicken was also $11.00 and you get 4 chicken-thigh sized pieces. My ramen was $21.00. All in all, this place is adequately priced for sure and everything was well worth it. You can't have excellent quality food without paying for it. You feel me? I'd pay it all over again.
In conclusion, I loved it here and I wish them much success! The restaurant is on the smaller side, so make reservations and make sure you check...
