New York | Tried 12 Vietnamese Restaurants (Part 2)

A new addition to Midtown East that deserves your attention. Don't let the perfect 5 star rating scare you - 5 stars is pretty much the smallest token of appreciation for the amount of attentive care and hospitality Mac and her staff provide for their customers. Everyone who walks through the doors will feel this same exact warm welcome. Not only that, but Mac will also take your taste buds on a journey to Thailand and save you the flight. She showed me 4 options, I tried 3 of them and must say you'd be doing yourself a big favor if you went with the Panang. Don't get me wrong, the Kati Original Curry is great, but I'm a baby when it comes to spices (lol). I sprinkled this over my kitchen and washed it down with thai tea. Whether you're grabbing lunch or showing a friend a new curry spot, Kati Shop can provide you that convenience in midtown. Their open space allows for quite a number of people to dine in. I will be back to continue to see what Mac and her team have coming up next!

We were craving Thai food and chose Kati Shop because it is dedicated gluten free with vegan options. Were surprised to see that it’s more of a quick service model–you order and then pay at the counter and then there’s a small area for seating. It was a relief to be able to eat at a dedicated gf facility and the food was very delicious. I ordered the panang curry because they advised that it was the most similar to red curry. I chose the chicken as my protein since the tofu had sesame (I am allergic to sesame). My partner ordered the Massaman curry and he liked it but we both agreed that the panang was better. Each main dish is served with two sides. We arrived pretty late so had limited choices but ended up ordering the cucumber salad and boiled egg. The cucumber salad was very tasty and the boiled egg was a boiled egg. We really enjoyed the food and found the servings to be generous. If ever back in NYC we would likely come here again.

Food was good, but the service left more to be desired.

It was my first time there and I needed a little more time to order but I felt so rushed. (Note: I was the only person on the line. This was after lunch rush and a little before dinner rush). At one point, they asked me what sides I wanted and the server said, “Sorry, I can’t hear you” and then pushed my food to the next server to help me complete my order. I do have a quiet voice but I felt that was a little rude. But I got over it. I paid for my food and drink, and I even tipped! While I was eating my food, I noticed that the servers were greeting and saying bye to other customers but they never greeted me. When I finally finished my food, they didn’t say bye to me either or “khop khun ka” (which they had said to a non-Thai person who left). I don’t care about not being greeted or workers not saying thank you but when it only happens to me, I find it off-putting. I was also the only non-Asian brown person in the restaurant. I don’t want to assume anything but you get the picture… It’s not like I was rude. I greeted them and also thanked them for the food.

I ordered the massaman curry and it was a tinge spicy but nothing unbearable. Just a warning for those who may be sensitive to spicy foods. It was...

This is my first time trying Kati. I ordered the lemongrass chicken with Kati curry with white rice and sides of sweet potatoes and zucchini. Everything was so DELICIOUS! The jasmine rice had the perfect amount of water so it was plump and fluffy. The texture was amazing. The sweet potatoes with a hint of coconut juice and zucchini (both cooked perfectly) was a perfect "blander" sides to bring out the "main" course: THE CURRY! The Kati curry was spicy but so addicting and yummy. Rich, smooth, creamy, spicy, herby and plenty of GOOD quality coconut milk. I was pleasantly surprised by the spice level and amount of coconut milk in the curry since restaurants usually tone it down in the city. This is great news! The Thai tea tasted just like Thailand: thick, sweet, and creamy. The tea was distinct as well. LEGIT! The service was superb. Staff was super friendly with smiles on their face. They warned me about how spicy the Kati curry was since it was my first time having it. Overall very impressed with the freshness of the ingredients, spice level, and service. Reminds me of Thailand! Will be back...

Food was exceptionally delicious. The only problem I have is with the service..when I ordered from here I felt like I was being extremely rushed to choose the dishes and a side..for the sides I chose the green beans and zucchini and I had asked the girl to add just an egg ontop which she ignored and had mistakenly put just the egg. also wanted to charge me 3 extra dollars for sides. That's crazy who would pay an extra 3 dollars for an egg or greens. Then when I asked if it's possible to just give me the egg ontop the green beans because the plate had alot more room to fill sides she had told me that if I wanted to try the green beans for next time which confused me because I was not asking about next time. My point was that there was alot more room to fill the plate with the green beans and they refused to offer me that option and instead wanted to charge $3 more in a small cup size fill with green beans. Me paying $13 plus tip and tax which came out to $16.38 You guys could have at least added the egg in there. I steer clear of places like these. Need to...
