Worst dining experience I've ever had in NYC. This place will be closed within the year. I'll list my qualms below.
We came to Ketchy Shuby excited to experience the lounge that’s been hyped all over TikTok. What we encountered instead was unprofessional, chaotic, and frankly, discriminatory.
At the door, there was a bouncer along with a few unimpressive promoters who seemed more focused on sizing up the women in line than managing a fair entry process. It was clear they were selectively letting in certain girls—some with promoters, some not—while others, like us (POC women, I should note), were overlooked despite being dressed appropriately and having ample nightlife experience, around the globe (I should note again).
To make matters worse, we witnessed the promoter attempting to usher in a group of at least 10 clearly underage girls. The bouncer initially expressed frustration but eventually allowed them all in, which was concerning and irresponsible.
When we were finally let in, we were sent in circles trying to figure out wristbands and stamps. I politely tried to get the attention of the man outside in charge of stamping (a tall man, in his 50s, with a long, unkempt ponytail, who seemed to be a manager), and when I said, “excuse me,” he sarcastically replied, “you’re excused.” That kind of dismissive, condescending response to a respectful inquiry (that wasn’t even made yet) is unacceptable, especially from staff at a supposedly upscale venue.
We decided not to spend our money at an establishment that is so poorly run, overtly pretentious, and, quite honestly, racist in its entry practices. Take this as your warning: Ketchy Shuby is not it. Go to Brooklyn, leave it for the superficial and underage basic...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I found this place on Instagram for date night. We thought, dinner and drinks and then we have an amazing club downstairs? How perfect! ..WRONG.
I’ll be honest, the food was good. But this place left us with a bad taste and ruined our night out in the city. The waitress hyped up the club downstairs while we had dinner and told us we can get our stamp from the front desk. The staff also performed a show at 10:30pm to get the “party” started. It all looked great and we decided to get more drinks. We then pay for the bill and head to the front desk for our stamp. The front desk tells us that we need to talk to the bouncer outside.
My girlfriend is wearing a short dress and we are now both outside waiting in the cold to find out that even though we just had dinner at the restaurant, we cannot get into the club without another set of reservations. We never felt so disregarded after literally just spending $250+ on dinner and on top of that, being hyped by the staff for the club. In such disbelief, we decided to walk back to our car in shock and go back home.
We have been to other places in the city with a similar concept of dinner and club (TAO Downtown) and were not treated this way. While the food is good here, there many other places in the city with great food that will not ruin your night out in the city and leave you with a bad feeling in your gut.
Wish I read the reviews of this place earlier as many seem to have experienced the same. I hope this review saves another couple’s date night...
