Big YES in my book! Came here for Motherâs Day to celebrate, and I donât think I could have chosen a better place for a celebration. There was a bit of a wait, but I didnât mind that at all since it was only about 20 mins, I last minute decided to eat here, and what else did I expect on Motherâs Day lol! First we will start with the host, very nice mannered young man who spoke with etiquette and respect; very important for a restaurant like this. A bad host = an immediate bad vibe. Good thing that wasnât a problem for the night I went, hopefully all of their hosts/ hostesses have the same demeanor as the host on Mothers Day. Now the food! I thought it was really worth it. At $3.85 per plate, thatâs less than $2 per sushi and you canât really find that out here in Flushing much(Iâm a local), a lot of places charge $4 per piece and itâs no bigger than the one received here at $2/ piece. The sockeye salmon was my favorite out of the salmon variations. The scallop and sweet shrimp were super good! The sweet shrimp with the minced peppers on top was my favorite variation of the sweet shrimps. I only ordered from the conveyor belt so I canât speak on how quick or not quick food comes out if you donât get it off of the revolving belt. I did not try the beef items, tamago(egg), watermelon, edamame, mackerel, any white fishes, and a few other items, so Iâm speaking on what I tried and thatâs what my 5 stars are based on(along with other factors). I tried most of the salmon options, all of which were good but I will note that the regular salmon was not the best color to the eye, but the flavor was still fatty and rich like a good piece of salmon. I would stick to the sockeye salmon or the salmon belly. The salmon belly was really good too, not fishy at all. The tuna was sliced thin but tasted very good, which isnât always the case for tuna since it can take on a metaly fish flavor easily. I tried the sea urchin nigiri but that was a hard pass for me and my partner. The scallop and sweet shrimps were the stars of the night for me personally. A 16 oz Sapporo draft for $7.55 wasnât too bad either. Since I came on a holiday, I didnât have the problem of it taking forever for the chefs to refill the revolving belt of items that were taken. I see in other reviews that that was a problem for some people, but those people didnât come on a holiday so! I will say that the table could have been cleaned better and I wouldnât touch the ginger sitting in a dirty box(the box was dirty, but had it been more clean looking then I wouldnât say dirty box) that they offer on the table. I thought it was a tiny trash can so I didnât even open it until the end of my meal where I realized that I didnât even eat ginger with my meal. They gotta try to step it up with cleaning the tables and offering ginger in a more hygienic way. I would say this place is best to judge when you come for a celebratory purpose, I wouldnât come here on a regular Monday night for a family meal. For a birthday(you get a free dessert for a bday), a holiday, a reunion, a celebratory reason of some sort, then I recommend it! The atmosphere was unique as well. The only other revolving sushi place I know of is in Queens Center Mall, so the location of this place is pretty awesome. The mall is a really nice ambiance and perfect for kawaii and...
Read moreKura Sushi Review: An Experience to Savor My recent visit to Kura Sushi was an exceptional dining experience, thanks in large part to the outstanding service provided by our server, Jimmy. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, the ambiance was welcoming and lively, capturing the essence of authentic Japanese dining.
Ambiance and Atmosphere: Kura Sushi boasts a modern and clean design with a vibrant, yet relaxed atmosphere. The conveyor belt system, which delivers a delightful variety of sushi plates directly to your table, adds an element of fun and excitement. The restaurant is well-lit, and the seating arrangements are comfortable, making it a great spot for both casual outings and special occasions.
Service: Jimmy, our server, played a crucial role in making our dining experience memorable. His friendly demeanor and attentive service stood out immediately. Jimmy greeted us with a warm smile and was quick to offer assistance with the menu. He took the time to explain how the conveyor belt system works and recommended some of the restaurant's specialties.
Throughout the meal, Jimmy ensured that we were well taken care of, checking in periodically to see if we needed anything without being intrusive. His knowledge about the different sushi options and his enthusiasm for the dishes were impressive. When we had questions about ingredients or wanted suggestions, Jimmy's recommendations were spot-on, enhancing our enjoyment of the meal.
Food: The sushi at Kura Sushi is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Each plate that arrived via the conveyor belt was a delightful surprise. The variety was impressive, from classic rolls to innovative creations. Highlights included the spicy tuna roll, the eel nigiri, and the tempura shrimp roll, all of which were delicious.
In addition to the sushi, we tried a few side dishes, including miso soup and edamame, which complemented our meal perfectly. The dessert options were equally enticing, and we couldn't resist the matcha green tea ice cream to finish off our meal.
Technology and Innovation: One of the unique aspects of Kura Sushi is its integration of technology. The ordering system is user-friendly, allowing diners to place special orders via a tablet at the table. This ensures that you get exactly what you want, in addition to the conveyor belt selections. The interactive approach adds a modern twist to the traditional dining experience.
Overall Experience: Kura Sushi delivers a wonderful dining experience that combines delicious food, innovative dining technology, and exceptional service. Jimmy's attentive and knowledgeable service was the highlight of our visit, making us feel welcomed and valued. Whether you're a sushi aficionado or a first-time visitor, Kura Sushi offers something for everyone. We left the restaurant with satisfied appetites and a desire to return soon.

Read moreI rarely leave negative reviews for restaurants â the last time I did was a long time ago. It was my boyfriendâs birthday, and we had dinner plans with friends at 8PM. Since we hadnât eaten lunch that day, we were really hungry and decided to grab a quick bite beforehand. Around 6PM, we arrived at this restaurant.
At the entrance, a bearded man told us that bar seating was available without a wait, but weâd have to wait for a regular table. My boyfriend said he preferred not to sit at the bar. The man said the wait would be around 15 minutes, but couldnât guarantee it. We said okay, especially since we saw many empty tables inside.
Twenty minutes later, we returned, but our table still wasnât ready. The same bearded man was now very rude and told us not to wait at the entrance â that we would receive a text when it was ready. So we walked away again.
Fifteen minutes later, we got a text and returned, but the same man said it was just a heads-up that our table would be ready soon, and told us to keep walking around but not go too far.
At this point, I was already quite upset, but tried to let it go because my boyfriend still wanted to eat there. After another 15 minutes, we were finally seated â at the bar, and at the farthest end of it.
We tried speaking to him, but he ignored us. Altogether, it was already 7:15PM. We didnât want to argue anymore, just ate quickly and left.
I understand that restaurants in Flushing can be busy and that waiting is normal. But itâs hard to understand why we had to wait so long when many tables were clearly empty, and on top of that, ended up being seated at the bar anyway.
Other Kura locations in New Jersey are great â even in Japan, where theyâre extremely busy, the staff at the front is always professional and polite. The brand is supposed to be about speed and automation.
But the man at the front of this Flushing location â Iâm not sure if heâs the manager or what â was such a terrible representative of the brand. He made the experience embarrassing and frustrating.
I wonât be...
