I had come here to Leo’s once before and had an amazing experience in the summer of 2023. This time around was an awful experience and the quality of the bagel has seemed to go down so much. They have so many workers behind their counter but the service doesn’t seem as strong. I ordered “ the Maeven” sandwich and received it without any spicy mayo on so I let the expediter woman standing by the counter know and she handed my sandwich to a guy in the corner who just added the spicy mayo and then rewrapped the sandwich? I went to sit back down and opened my sandwich again and the sandwich was covered all over with the spicy mayo in a gross way where it was covering all over the outer bagel , how am I supposed to hold the bagel now without getting spicy mayo all over my fingers?. I handed the sandwich back to the woman very upset now and spoke my disappointment on how the sandwich was prepared . I believe they did nothing about it and just rewrapped my sandwich for the third time and when I opened it it was still lathered with spicy mayo spilling out and the inside egg and avocado sliding out of the bagel with each bite I took and spicy mayo dripping all over, which is not an enjoyable way to eat a breakfast sandwich. The general vibe of this place has changed so much since the last time I went in the summer of 2023, it had much more a “hustling” vibe which I rlly respected about this place which has seemed to change so quickly and is now just inflated with service that doesn’t understand quality, not to mention the fact that last time I ordered the maeven, the bagel was fat and packed and this time it was not as generous. If you’re going to charge $14 for a veg Breakfast sandwich the quality should be pristine! I think Leo’s Bagels has lost its magic and next time I’ll go to a real bagel deli since Leo’s bagels has turned into a place where quality...
Read moreIt's amazing to see how much effort we had to put into finding a place that served breakfast at 8 a.m. on a weekday while we were staying at a hotel near the Staten Island Ferry. We did an extensive walk that included the Fulton Fish Market area and there was just nothing around.
So, we stumbled into Leo's Bagels. It wasn't the sit-down kind of place we were hoping for, but since we were very hungry and short on time, we opted to settle for bagel sandwiches.
The main issue here is the signage inside. It's completely misleading. One sign that says LINE STARTS HERE is not the line to order your food. The area where the sign says PICKUP FOOD/ORDERS is where the ordering is. And if you just read what I wrote carefully, you can see that the signs need to be changed. We stood at the LINE STARTS HERE area for 5 minutes and none of the workers behind the counter bothered to direct us to the ordering area until we asked.
Both my girlfriend and I had eggs on a toasted sesame bagel. In all, it was pretty decent, but it cost us about $7-$8 for each sandwich which is kind of pricey. Then, of course, they push you to add a tip at the register which drives up that cost considerably.
The service was decent. The wait from ordering to getting our sandwiches was a bit long considering the amount of workers behind the counter. However, in all, it's a decent place to get a takeout bagel sandwich (with a few bar stools inside to sit). Nothing above...
Read moreWe went for the first time and did an online pick up order.
the positive: the sesame seed bagel toasted with the sun-dried tomato and roasted garlic cream cheese was really good. While the bagel itself was just okay, that cream cheese was a standout. It was flavorful and creamy. A quick note—Leo's gives you the cream cheese off the bagel, so at least that's one less thing the staff has to do when fulfilling the order.
However, the rest of the order was where things went wrong. We ordered The Maven breakfast sandwich, which is described as a cheddar cheese omelette, avocado, tomato, alfalfa sprouts, and spicy mayo. We specifically asked for no tomatoes, extra spicy mayo on the side, and sautéed onions as an add-on. What we got was RAW onions (instead of sautéed), tomatoes still on the sandwich, and—most frustratingly—no extra spicy mayo at all. There wasn't ANY spicy mayo on the sandwich either (which was in the description of the sandwich on the menu), which made it a bit dry. To top it off, we requested utensils and napkins in our bag, and none were included.
We understand they were busy, but the lack of attention to detail and failure to follow the order especially with the up charge of add ons that weren’t even done as requested was disappointing, especially after we left a tip. At that point, we were already too far from the shop to go back and fix it, so we...
