Good neighborhood bar. Bartenders were friendly and efficient although granted we were 2 of 9 people in the place on a Friday night. Draft list had a few worthwhile things (Weinhenstephaner, Pumpking) which is more or less a prerequisite in this area of Brooklyn, but as someone who lives in an area where this isn't the norm, I appreciated it. There is a fantastic old-time string band music session on Monday nights, and some of the city's best acoustic musicians show up. The crowd is young, attractive and remarkably unpretentious. Third Avenue in the South Slope still isn't a hot spot by any stretch of the imagination. But if you add up Lowlands, Tano, Draft Barn, and... the place that is just reopening in El Poblano's old spot, all of a sudden there's something going on.
Lowlands is a pretty decent, chill place. Good beer on tap. Friendly bartenders. Turntables and vinyl selection behind the bar. The back yard patio is pretty bare bones, but it works. And on a nice spring or summer evening, there are a lot worse...
