I took the two day intensive NEON introduction class. We were blessed to have Dave Ablon, one of the BG Precision Neon founders and neon artisan, as our primary instructor - he shared industry history and insights to the different neon crafting techniques of different regions of the world. The BG facility is very well fitted out for instruction, with students in session along side inspiring production work. Dave is one of the rare experts in his craft who is also an effective teacher. The assistants helping him / us were on top of their game as well. The structure of the course - the first day quickly getting students into creation of a free form 'modern art' working neon piece is a smart move on the part of BG - encouraging students to NOT stay within the lines; to not try to achieve expertise in one go. The second day did dive into technical skills development - very challenging, with humorous results in many cases. My initial attempts at cutting, fusing, bending etc looked much like that ugly clay mug I created in 1st grade art - something only a mother could love. I wish I lived in the NYC area - to be able to use access to the BG studio as a course graduate 'renter'' of the facility and all it offers in terms of space, equipment, supplies and the like. Thank you for the very therapeutic / Zen weekend,...
Read moreMy wife and I ( no prior experience) just took the Neon workshop this past weekend and it was a great experience. We had Chris as our instructor and he was awesome. He was very personable, knowledgable, and patient. He definitely has a passion both for neon, and for teaching. He made sure we learned, stayed safe and enjoyed ourselves. We had an amazing time, made some cool pieces(cooler than i was expecting to be able to make as a novice) AND learned way more about Neon than we were expecting. A lot more goes into making a neon piece than I would have imagined, and I have a much deeper appreciation whenever I see any neon signs now. I highly recommend this workshop. It was a great time and it was cool to learn something new and make a piece that you can go home with at the end of the day.
We had also taken the glass blowing class a year ago and that was an amazing time as well. I highly recommend Brooklyn Glass for anyone who is thinking about taking any class here. Everyone there is passionate and friendly and you are sure to learn and...
Read moreI wish I could give this place zero stars. Can we just say terrible morals. My husband bought tickets for he and his sister to take a class for Christmas. Well the day of a little over an hour before the class we got a call my father in law was being put into the icu and stopped breathing had to have an emergency procedure and is still fighting for his life currently. The tickets were almost 500 bucks we didn’t want a refund just maybe some form of Credit towards a future class even if we had to pay a little extra because that would be the right thing to do. We are business owners ourselves and understand policies and that you can’t always grant stuff but this was a life or death situation and this was the response we got. We reiterate 24 hr cancelation policy and they didn’t offer anything. Talk...
