So happy that an Asian hair salon has opened up in this area of Brooklyn! I’ve gone to Keiji twice now for hair coloring (which I’ve been wanting to do for a long time, but was hesitant bc of hair health and maintenance), and have been delighted with results both times. Actually about to head in for my 3rd session w him for touch up.

For context, I was a first-timer starting out with virgin black hair and wanted to go to a very light ashy purple. Keiji was really great throughout the whole process. When I made the initial appointment, he reached out via email to talk about my desired hairstyle. He also answered all my questions about bleaching and talked me through the steps for double process hair coloring. I felt like he was really attentive in his preparation.

Once we got to the actual appointment, Keiji took his time to explain toner colors and considerations for going lighter. I wanted to go for a very light color, which he told me would require a double bleach and my hair might not be able to handle it. He was very transparent and upfront about what was possible, which I appreciated. And then when picking toner colors, I specified I wanted a light ashy purple, not saturated, not dark, and Keiji explained the different possibilities and pros/cons of going darker at first and how toner color would lighten over time. The whole time I felt like Keiji was really patient and careful about making sure I got the hairstyle I wanted, while being honest about longevity and potential hair damage.

Overall, I’ve been really happy w U&K and highly recommend it to anybody considering it. The salon itself is very clean and airy with lots of light, and Keiji really takes his time to style your hair. Never felt rushed at all. Plus, when I went in for my 2nd appointment, Keiji remembered me and had notes for everything we’d done previously! So great to have your hairstylist remember your preferences and not having to explain everything all over again.

(PS this salon is cash only so remember to visit the ATM before...

I discovered Keiji after the pandemic and I have never looked back. I have very fine and - unfortunately - easily breakable fine, Japanese hair, which I like to color... and over the years of trying various salons and stylists, I have found Japanese stylists know how best to color treat my hair. Keiji is by far my favorite hair guru I have found in my 23 (!) years of living in New York. I met Keiji when he was at another salon and I happily follow him to his newly opened - and well deserved - independent salon. Keiji is meticulous and precise; he is an engaged listener and personable conversationalist, and always professional. He works with you to achieve the look you want. I love that he employs Japanese methods of hair coloring, which I find to be much more gentle. The color Keiji manages to achieve in a "single process" is just astonishing -- my fine hair remains healthy, and the color has depth and beauty! Keiji's new salon is sleek and beautiful, and I look forward to it evolving as he adds layers to the space. As a true professional and artist committed to his craft, I know that his associates must also be at the highest standard. I could not recommend U+K Salon more...

I have been going to Keiji for haircuts for a few years now and have never had a better cut. My Asian hair is course and wavy and challenging to cut but he seems to know exactly how to work with it so that it looks great with minimal upkeep. Do you know how sometimes you get a great cut but then you go back and the next one is just meh? That never happens with Keiji. He takes meticulous notes so he always knows exactly what he did the previous visit and can replicate it perfectly. At the same time, he is also flexible and can make suggestions if you feel like experimenting with something different. I have recently started coloring my hair and I have also been very satisfied with the process. FYI he also cuts my teenage son’s hair, and he loves the cuts he gets from Keiji (and you know how picky teen boys can be)! Can you tell I trust his judgment completely? Finally, he is a super nice guy, very upbeat and responsive, a real family man. I highly recommend Keiji and U&K Salon for all of your Asian hair care needs. He...

Great spot for haircut. The staff members are professional. Place is clean, relaxing and calming. The stylist gives great advice and so friendly. Sunday morning seems like a great time as they don’t seem as busy (just yet).

So very excited to have seen Samer recently in this newly opened place. Samer was working with Keiji at another salon in Park Slope that has since moved out of the neighborhood. I was gutted initially but was so happy to learn that several of the old staff have established a new salon in relatively same area. Samer has over a decade of experience in hairstyling. It’s a passion & calling that I’m so excited to see him live through. I truly appreciate the very human touch and open conversation he is very keen on having re: my hair goals and hair care. The newly opened space is very clean, brightly lit & conveniently located. There’s a few lovely neighborhood joints like an extensive cocktail & pizza place closeby if you want to meander or have someone waiting around for yah.
