I lived in Gotham West for exactly 3 years, and it is fair to say I loved every single minute of it. When planning my move to NYC, I debated whether to live facing the Hudson River or facing the East River, sunset vs sunrise, and saw dozens of places on each side of the city. When I came for my tour, as soon as I walked into the lobby of Gotham West, the simple but elegant feel of the building style felt right, and I liked the professional and friendly Front Desk staff. It happened to be sunset time when I went up to see my NW-facing corner apartment and my heart leaped with the incredible show-stopping sunset view on the river, the floor to ceiling windows, and a really well thought-out layout that feels spacious and super well designed, with features I loved, like a window facing the river from every room, spacious closets, very well designed island and above island storage, the linen closet, the hall closet, spacious bedrooms (I had a King bed!), and, best of all, the very spacious bathrooms with so much storage. I fell in love with the apartment and there was no other choice! Over the years, I've seen a few other Gotham West apartments, even those not river-facing, and they all have the same spacious feel, with generous proportions of extra-wide doors, wide hallway, and high ceilings, that makes a real difference. I am really into space design, and Gotham West is an exceptionally well designed building from top to bottom.
Then the amenities. First, the rooftop! I cannot say enough about the rooftop. Over the 3 years, I brought so many guests to visit the rooftop and, hands down, it is one of the most beautiful rooftops I have ever seen. Second, the downstairs lounge, with beautifully designed co-working space, art exhibition space, pool table, morning coffee station and chef's kitchen, the business center, and the gym. I used all of these at various times, and what always amazed me was how well maintained all the public spaces were, very clean and tidy, but also not very crowded considering the large number of residents. Third, Gotham Concierge. I did not use all of the concierge services, such as booking dinner reservations or travel, but I did use them occasionally for things like booking cleaners or dry-cleaning, and definitely enjoyed the various events/parties/get-togethers that they organized, like the movie screenings on the rooftop, or comedy night, or Halloween parties, among many others. Fourth, the Front Desk and maintenance staff. I really really loved the friendly, super-professional, and highly efficient building staff. Starting from Tony the building manager, Tom, Eddie, Hamza, Johnny, Alberto, and others at the Front Desk, Giovanni, Patrick, and El-Mouhaly on the maintenance team, I found everyone to be super nice and, without exaggeration, this building has the fastest service turnaround time I have seen anywhere, even a 5-star hotel. When you call the Front Desk about an issue, there is someone knocking on your door 5 minutes later, and they get the job done fast, and well.
All in all, if I could give Gotham West 10 stars, I would. When I first moved in, someone told me that she loved the building so much that the only way she would leave would be in a coffin! I get it! The only reason I am leaving Gotham West is because I am moving out of New York.
I am so grateful for the wonderful memories made at Gotham West, for myself and my family. Even friends who visited are so sad that I have moved out! I will never forget the incredible sunsets, and the night views too, and the early morning views with my coffee, the hours I spent lost in thought, gazing at the river. I used to love coming home after a long business trip and having the "aha" moment as I entered my wonderful apartment, every time! I also really felt like Gotham West had an outstanding team of kind and professional staff that made it run like clockwork, and it truly felt like a cross between a high-end hotel and a club/lounge. It was a fantastic place to live and I highly, highly recommend...
Read moreThe lease you sign doesn't even border on misleading. IT'S FALSE! You will feel violated and defrauded once you realize what you entered into. Upon moving in a year ago, I immediately found my $4000/mos. unit to be "masked" over. A few repairs were made but very sloppily and as the year has progressed, the bandaids they use are peeling off. FLOORS! - I noticed my wood floor paneling was constantly popping up so I brought it to the attention of the -then- super George. I was told the building was shifting and weather change were the cause. I noticed the floors were coming up but not going down, thus causing it to chip and break off (major hazard to anyone with feet). The new super confirmed what I knew from the beginning.. the floors are WARPED! MANAGEMENTS RESOLUTION- they would fix it but only with my furniture, myself and pet in the unit. In other words, although the problem predates my lease, Gotham west wants me to watch construction workers destroy my belongings and health because they are too cheap and lazy to take the legal route. A basic knowledge of construction is all you need, to know this is dangerous on many levels. ..especially if you have any medical issues and during a pandemic. AIR CONDITIONING!- there is NO 24 EMERGENCY SUPERINTENDENT SERVICE! My air conditioning units has been replaced 9 times in 4 months, but only at the convenience of the part time handyman in this building. The last 2 units were replaced within a day of each other because the unit was too small for the casing and I slit my finger against the sharp edges trying to change the temperature. THE SOLUTION OF THE SUPER-stick my hand in at an angle! Both of my wrists are metal (no angle versatility here). The night my AC went out, it was 80+ degrees and nobody attended to it for 2 days. The handyman admitted to installing a cheap unit and proceeded to install another equally cheap unit which can't read the temperature. I have an autoimmune condition that requires a low body temp. The porter at the front desk initially refused to reach out to the super because it was 3 am. He then hung up on me. You will suffer while the people you are paying live their best life. If there is a fire, flood, attack of any kind, Gotham management will ignore the situation period. LACK OF STAFF. There is NO 24 hr. FRONT DESK SERVICE. This building requires packages and mail to be delivered to the front desk. Delivery persons are not allowed to deliver to individual tenants. My packages get delivered, but on numerous occasions I was not notified for days (or at all)...including time sensitive material. To add to this, Gotham's constant unmitigated muck ups, they refuse to hire trained overnight staff. You will find a porter at the front desk during the overnight hours. This means, if you go to collect a package after 11pm, they won't give you what is yours...importance be damned. This also means, rarely is there a trained individual overnight to manage any kind of emergency. Management was not available on any of the occasions I stated above. The building managers Rosemary or Amine are never around. FRONT DESK STAFF- one of the duties of the front desk is to prevent unwanted people wandering up to your apartment...it's what We Pay for. There is no privacy or safety in this building. I've been told "they just slipped by" numerous times, including a stalker that has a restraining order out against them. NOISE- I have 2 friends on the 24th floor and you hear the trucks from UPS..FEDEX/DRUNK HOMELESS people yelling and other random things at 3..4..5 am. I'm a few floors down and it is brutal. The windows are different in each room so there is no consistency in light and sound. There are tenants that don't speak up, but im not one of them. Brown/black water in the middle of a shower is not something you should expect or accept in a so called "luxury " building. It's your money, comfort, sanity, privacy, and most importantly your safety you are signing over. CONTRARY TO THE BUILDING'S RESPONSE, THEY DID NOT...
Read moreFor us, it was love at first sight - long before we actually moved into our apartment thatâs since become so much more, and really, is a home with great neighbors, and in a community we love...at Gotham West!
And when we say âhomeâ, we mean it!
Itâs a home we love and look forward to coming back to every day!!! Itâs as much a state of mind, or a place we kick back and chill together with our dog hogging our bed while we watch tv, as it is a place our families, be they our biological, or our chosen ones, enjoy spending time with us.
Sometimes, they look for excuses to drop by, and when that fails, they even all but invite themselves over, too. (Hey, we usually donât mind...theyâre family, after all!!! đ)
But seriously, what we love about Gotham West is that itâs a home (complete with a washer & dryer, too! Whaaaaaat!!!) within a diverse, virbrant community of people and families, many of whom have become friends, with lots of dog lovers (and their best friends, so our little tail wagger has lots of bffâs here too), in a gorgeous, well-maintained building that offers so much of what makes for a perfect place to live in NYC!!!
A beautiful gym, an entire room filled with an array of cardio equipment, plus daily fitness classes, too...an awesome Concierge...a playroom for families with young children...an huge, not to mention gorgeous, tenantsâ lounge complete with a private conference room and business equipment...a dedicated dog washing station for four legged family members...cooking demos by chefs from well known restaurants...drinking âclassesâ taught by expert Mixologists...even a champagne and caviar tasting (for reals!!!).
And thatâs just some of the indoor amenities and activities we love about our home at Gotham West when the weather is too cold and blustery to hang out on what can only be described as one of the best rooftop lounges in all of NYC!
Talk about love at first sight...the rooftop lounge is beyond awesome!!! And the viewâs not half bad, either.
Who are we kidding?!?! The view from the rooftop lounge is freakinâ amazing!!!
Our single and mingle days may be long gone...but if either of us was single and had a date weâd want to impress...the spectacular view from our awesome rooftop lounge would definitely be the showstopper weâd bring our dates to (bottle of wine, two glasses in hand, ânatch! đ)
But for nesters like us, we love our frequent weekend brunches together and the summer nights on our roof - especially the monthly movies under the stars!
Thatâs just a few of the things we love about our home at Gotham West...but thereâs waaaaayyyy more.
The popular and widely acclaimed Gotham West Market is at our doorstep (our families love going there whenever theyâre in town!)...the bike valet is...well, how do you top that - especially after our last two buildings were not even DIY bike room storage, they were schlep those pedals up & down in the elevator and store those dirty things in YOUR place, NOT ours...so, a bike valet...thatâs just CRAZY, as in crazy good now that our bikes donât clutter our home and end up as makeshift open air laundry hampers during the winter liked they used to be!
Finally, and for us, as a gay couple, something very personal: we have a home, instead of just an apartment at Gotham West because of the people who from Day 1 when we applied for an apartment, and every day since, have made us feel welcome without hesitation.
Without a doubt, we cannot speak highly enough about everyone weâve met who works here, and who make Gotham West the special place where after the two other previous apartment buildings we lived in, this is the only one that weâve ever called our home!
We really LOVE where we live...itâs much more than the often seen or heard slogan bandied about by many other ho-hum, wannabe buildings in NYC that only wish they were half as cool as the home we have...at...
