Maiz — Restaurant in New York

VERY VERY POOR BUSINESS Saddest thing is Ive legit come here every day for 8 months , I have my receipts. I take a break same time everyday when I order nachos (as I always do) I ask for rice and other things. Today I come in I walk up to the order place the guy saids oh sit sit she will seat you am like okay whatever in my head , I sit she begins to take my order I ask for the rice she saids its $6 extra but since when because I’ve been coming here for 8 months ( btw I came here 2 days ago and I wasn’t charge extra) Now this is when I got mad the waiter was new so that was even poorer on there behalf to let her handle it and she didn’t know what was going on. Not only that when I get the nachos I had barley little to no meat there for 17$ ,the food is good but authentic Mexican is THE BIGGEST LIE not to mention THE OVER PRICing so you can just get there ( very chill $5 marg) which the charge a extra $1 for flavor and tax also guys ( it’s house liquor) . But they also tell you you have to buy food to get drinks, which I’ve done spending $30 on appetizers, but today I witness 2 men come in around 4:30-4:4:45 did not order food but was given drinks I never been disgusted with a business. (I have a video I recorded but I do t want to show your faces on til tok) The 2 men hugged a girl from the back and a man in the front so one of them must be the manager but that’s not how you do business I hope this restaurant will correct there wrongs will a consistent high paying customer versus them just wanting to seem like they are that great for the public and they aren’t i recorded them men but I don’t wanna show there faces or the girl that made the drinks always has a bun in her her blondish and the man black hair cut faded back of head with al black on. You guys should definitely reach out and do better . Am sorry to the new girl I train new people everyday they know what to say. The food was horrible but I couldn’t retake another break I thought I was just going to the place I trusted...

I had a horrible experience here with the female manager on duty she added gratuity to my bill on a table of 1, I was dining alone, she then took it off said it was a mistake and intimidated me into leaving a tip. Asking if I was going to tip after she took it off because the employee doesn't get paid. this is what I wrote to the page on their social media, (and instead of a response , acknowledgement or apology, they blocked me. : Aggressive manager, shady billing, and bullying tactics at Maiz. I came to Maiz to eat alone, and they added automatic gratuity to my bill — for just one person. When I pointed it out, they admitted it was a “mistake” and removed it, but then the manager got confrontational and demanded I still leave a tip, saying the staff “don’t get paid.”

When I told her I’m a former waitress, instead of backing off, she mocked me and acted like she wanted to fight. Completely unprofessional and hostile — I felt disrespected and uncomfortable.

Tipping is not mandatory, especially after a billing error. If this is how they treat paying customers, I can only imagine how they treat their staff. Avoid Maiz unless you want to be overcharged and harassed. I literally had to go in the page and leave my comment on the actual page and still , nothing. I cannot believe...

in this restaurant the Beef Tortillas, Burritos and Beef Tacos look tasty that you would want to buy but their grilled chicken, brown rice and beans with green veggies, guacamole , tomatoes , chiles and white sauce with a fruit beverage is good too and this place probably have almost everyday good clientele, like this place have alot of customers who want to come and eat here or really they do go and eat here because I have seen this place we're there is no where to sit down to eat, the brown rice with a little extra chicken and other things like beans ,guacamole, tomatoes ,little bit of chiles, green veggies and white sauce was kind of expensive I thought it would cost more cheaper but I think in a different Mexican restaurant I probably was going to pay the same amount. In this place they look like they don't clean very much but probably I'm wrong and I think they should like remodel the place, like to put the place that will look bigger or wider and have more chairs and tables for people to sit...
