What a treat! Im not really an “out to dinner person” but i care to start treating myself more and since food is great love of mine; i thought I’d make it a habit to try different food spot. It was my first time trying this place but I passed it while walking the neighbors and thought it’d be nice to try out. They did NOT disappoint. I made a reservation for 4:30 pm because it was a fair enough dinner time for me and i saw they had a pre fixed dinner with options that i liked as well as a happy hour. I showed up with a cupcake since I was celebrating my birthday and they quickly seated me and acknowledged the occasion when seeing the cupcake. I ordered the Spaghetti Cacio e Pepe as the apetizer which was creamy, perfectly seasoned for my taste but i would skip it if you arent into a pepper taste. I sipped the best old fashioned i ever had while I waited for the next course, which is saying a lot from me since it is my favorite drink. For the next course I ordered the NY Strip since Prime was the main reason i decided to try out this place. I asked the waiter if how does he recommend the steak and he answered medium but i decided on medium rare since it is what im used to. It was fantastic but i think next time I’ll be curious to try medium. I had to get another old fashioned with my steak since it was soo good and it was just as good as the first. Extra points for consistency. I finished off with a strawberry shortcake and i truly had no expectations for this part of the meal since I’ve already show up with my favorite cupcake which they kindly lit for me and wished me a Happy Birthday but this Strawberry Shortcake was truly phenomenal. It was thick and fluffy but also juicy like a Tres Leches cake. I will definitely be back for another night. Thank you for the experience.

I had previously visited Il Mulino Prime in SoHo and left feeling underwhelmed, but I recently returned and had an entirely different experience—one that deserves a rave review. From the moment I walked in, the service was impeccable. The staff was warm, attentive, and welcoming, ensuring that every detail of our dining experience was exceptional. The cocktails were just as delightful as I remembered, but this time, the food truly lived up to the restaurant’s reputation. Every dish was executed beautifully, from presentation to flavor, and it was clear that the kitchen took great pride in their craft. More importantly, the hospitality made all the difference. Instead of feeling like an afterthought, we were treated with genuine care and enthusiasm, making the evening an absolute pleasure. It’s always refreshing to see a restaurant not only deliver on quality but also create an atmosphere where every guest feels valued. I’ll definitely be returning after this experience.

Friday night dinner around 7pm, not too busy. Sat outside and was the only table. Service was great at the beginning and then started to wane. Ordered wine and steak, didn't expect to have a mini meat & cheese board show up, and didn't eat too much as I needed to save room for the steak. Steak arrived and was delicious as anticipated with truffle butter and I love truffle butter. Brussel sprouts seemed more boiled vs roasted without a real good char on the outside and minimal crunch. After the food arrived is when the service disappeared. Even after the meal was done and glass of wine empty, I had to call someone over to provide the check. I'd maybe try at a busier time where other tables are outside as I think the table was 'forgotten'.

Came for lunch with coworkers to celebrate an important milestone. I have passed by this place numerous times but never came in to eat. It's beautiful in its relative sparseness. White walls with Hemingway quotes. Wrought iron chandeliers. Bella. Their menu looked extensive, but everyone ended up ordering from the lunch prix fixe menu - probably to try a little bit of three courses. The caprese for app and hanger steak entree was a popular combo. They had a lemon tiramisu dessert on the menu but they informed us that they had no lemon, just plain tiramisu. Strange. I got the Italian cheesecake. The pre-meal bread was a mix of long bread sticks and crispy flatbread with cheese baked on. Not freshly baked and probably either bought or premade a while ago. We all had a glass of wine to celebrate. The appetizers came out. One person got the tomato, onion, and bacon. The two hefty pieces of bacon was a pleasant surprise and made me regret my choice. But, once I got my caprese, I was pleased with three choice. The mozzarella was softer than I was used to but it was just firm enough to have substance.

Now the place is pretty small - probably no more than 8-10 tables. And we were probably the second group to be seated. We waited a long time for our entrees. To the point that the waiter (manager?) swang by and said 30 seconds more. A few minutes later, our food appeared. Or hanger steak was served with just romaine instead of the arugula on the menu. And the steaks were pre-cut for us and generally over cooked. My co workers wisely ordered medium rare and I ordered medium. Ours all came out closer to medium well. Plus the steaks were hardly seasoned. One co worker who got the spaghettini had a fist size portion. I get it, prixfixe. So dessert also ended up being a wait. It was three cheesecakes and one tiramisu. What came out was one each of tiramisu, cheesecake, and chocolate cake. The manager quickly realized what happened and had the waiter just bring out 2 more cheesecakes. This kind of mistake I can live with since I got to try the chocolate cake too. The Italian cheesecake was less sweet and more crumbly than regular NY cheesecakes. But it was good. The chocolate cake was definitely better with rich chocolate flakes inside.

Overall, great place to go for ambiance and scene. The service was great and everyone was friendly. But consistent with other reviews, it seems like it's...

We had previously been to Il Mulino Prime in Soho location for lunch, liked the experience and thought we would try dinner.

The maitre d seated us at a good table and we ordered wine which arrived with complimentary hors d'oeuvres. These were not great, the focaccia was very greasy and the salami was bland.

Our waiter came with menus and while we looked at these told us of the specials for the day. They sounded good and we chose from the specials. The zucchini flowers for me and for my partner, the ravioli with shaved white truffle.

When our dishes arrived they were well presented and the white truffle grated onto the ravioli at the table.

The mini herb salad was lovely and the cheese filling of the zucchini flowers was pleasant but the batter too thick and lacking delicacy of texture or flavour.

The ravioli filling was acceptable but not exceptional. The sauce was pleasant and enhanced by the fresh truffle. We were not displeased with our meal, the service to refill our wine and water was attentive and pleasant.

The problem came when we got the cheque. We had been charged $120 for the plate of ravioli, seven pieces in all. Let me be clear, one hundred and twenty dollars for the plate of ravioli.

The most expensive dish I saw on the printed menu was $56. There may have been others more expensive which I hadn't noted.

When our waiter told us of the specials at no time did he mention price for any of the dishes.

When we questioned the excessive cost of the ravioli we were told by the maitre d, the current market value of white truffles and how special they are. Yes, we know. He did ask if we wanted to see the manager but we could see there would be no joy there. We paid the full amount and left. Never to return.

I have since read other reviews of Il Murino and note this is a common occurrence. If I had read a review before we went I would have been aware of this sly behaviour. No-one likes to be taken for a ride in...
