Deep in hear of NYC is a restaurant that exceeded my expectations. Some may even call it a hidden gem. I’ve never heard of this place though it deserves to be heard of. I walked in there to loud Israeli music (a lil annoyingly loud but definitely brings you the vibe of the food).
I asked the server what he recommended so I went with the lamb kebab pita. I was expecting a very generic experience and a very generic pita with the usual fixings. While I was waiting I was offered pita slices with tehina and schug which was extremely nice.
I ordered my food to go and opened the bag to take a peak. When I tell you I was pitching tents I mean it, figuratively of course.
I ran to my car and took a bite. I had an hour drive ahead of me, it was 5:30 PM on a Thursday, I didn’t want to get stuck in crazy traffic so I started driving.
I lasted about 10 min before I couldn’t take it anymore. I pulled over on the shoulder of the FDR during the craziest traffic I’ve ever seen and devoured that thing. Cars were honking, people were cursing, flipping people off, screaming. Hell came down on the FDR that day. But me? I was sitting there, savoring every bite, the biggest smile on my face.
Grilled quartered tomatoes they put in their pitas are ingenious and add a sort of gusher burst of flavor in every bite. Charred onions add even more layers of flavor. Tehina, Schug, Parsley, Lamb all melding together to create the best pita I’ve ever had.
The only bad part about my experience was the fact that there wasn’t a cart on the side of the FDR so I could...
Read moreReserved a meal here through Mealpal; I got a beef pita. The first warning sign was that they gave me a bag that was sitting on a counter but I didn't think anything of it since I put a specific time to pick up. The second warning sign was that the bag seemed to be leaking and the person who gave a small attempt at wiping it. 10 minutes later, I sit at the office to eat it and open up the soggiest meal ever.
I had to remind myself that I got a pita but it looked like someone doused it with a gallon of water. The pita definitely looked pre-made hours ago given the amount of condensation that has soaked through everything. It was colder than the air outside and the beef was tough as well. The vegetables were mushy and every bite cause the pita to drip with water/sauce. It's unacceptable to pre-make a pita and expect it to be at an acceptable standard to eat after 10-15 minutes, let alone hours. However, I'm not one to waste food as I know others that are less fortunate exist in this world.
It's not acceptable to serve any food after sitting there for more than 30 minutes and the staff should've remade it before letting me to take it back and discover...
Read moreThe only kosher Miznon place. This is definetly worth the trip. Both meat and vegan options are availible.
We were walking past unknowingly about this place. it stood out to us so we decided to try it. I asked the person at the till what was the most popular item to order, he advised to go for the lamb kebab in pita. So that what I ordered.
While waiting for the food someone came round with hot tea and pita with tehina and schug. I don't know how long we were waiting, as the music, decor, vibe and munch while you wait distracted us. Eventually our food did come, it looked amazing and made just right. First bite was a 10/10 and every bite 10/10 all the way until there was nothing left 10/10 on every bite. I don't normally go for lamb kebab, but this was in another level. So perfectly done so perfectly balanced. I don't know if this was a fluke or if it is like this everytime but I was blown away by how good this was. I did have it fresh as soon as it came out and not packaged. Which I'm sure makes a difference to this type of food.
I would definetly go back and try it again. By far the bast lamb kebab I have had and probably the best I will...
