Solid coffee and matcha! I visited Ten Thousand Coffee the morning before my train departed NYC on Sunday, and I was super excited to try their unique drinks after seeing a few featured on Instagram. I wasn't really in the mood for coffee so I decided to go the matcha route. They had a pretty extensive matcha selection -- almost as broad as their coffee menu -- but most of their drinks were quite sweet. I'm generally not a huge fan of super sweet drinks, so I decided to just get their classic matcha latte, while my friends to their matcha einspanner and green tangerine matcha refresher. Given my latte had the fewest additional ingredients, I expected it to have the strongest matcha flavor of the three, but I found the matcha quite mild and watered down.
My friends' drinks were both pretty solid. The green tangerine matcha refresher was a great combination of tangy, sour, and sweet. It tasted a bit like a lemonade with a slightly earthy undertone from the matcha and was a great drink to cool off during the summer. The matcha einspanner was extremely sweet, with the matcha flavor infused into the sweetened, cooled whipped cream on top of the standard iced latte underneath.
The space was quite cute, with a ton of natural light and a decent amount of seating, especially considering this shop is in the heart of Manhattan. The service was friendly, and I appreciated how patient they were with my many questions as I tried to find a matcha beverage with a bit less sugar. All in all, Ten Thousand Coffee has a ton of great unique drinks, but they trend a bit too sweet for me. Their unflavored beverages aren't really able to stand on their own (at least for my taste), but I'm excited to come back to try out their coffee or some of the other...
Read moreWe visited based on a John Barr’s video. Coffee was indeed the best one I had in the city. True specialty coffee. The barista was able to express the best those grains had to offer. The Panela Latte superb. The regular Late also superb. On the spot. Milk creamed and vaporized the right way and served at 65 Celsius. The sweet spot. Issues began with the service. The staff was on their own, talking about their own stuff and making jokes because a TV show was recording on the street. We had to repeat the order at least 3 times. Not something you would expect for that price point. Then we had what looked like a ham & cheese croissant. When delivered it was fridge cold. Not only the croissant but the ham was super freezing. At that point we still believed the cheese was cheese. We asked if the croissant could be heated, but the staff explained it was a sandwich meant to be eaten fresh and cold. When we took a bite on the table…. Oh man. That’s when sh*t hit the fan. The cheese wasn’t cheese. Was a cold thick slab of pure butter with a close to rigor mortis stiffness. The ham could not even be tasted due to the coldness of it. Who eats a slab of cold butter? And even more, how come no one explained it was butter and that it must be eaten cold. Yikes. Even though the coffee is superb, coffee is an experiential drink. And aside from the coffee itself the rest was completely lacking. Won’t come back. I’ll stick to low grade coffee in a comfy Starbucks lounge with warmer staff (& food 😂) and less...
Read moreI was here on a chilly Sunday afternoon, and although this is a smaller store with limited seating, they have very good quality coffee. I got medium roast and it was strong, full bodied and well balanced, with no bitterness. The Oat Currant scone was tasty. I did not see the famous Blueberry Yogurt pastry annd was told that they no longer will have them! Such a disappointment! Maybe the other locations have a greater variety of pastries but it still hit the spot! I recommend if you’re in the area and need a good cup of coffee! I did stop back again later and had the Annem (spelling?) A round croissant that’s caramelized on the outside and chewy and buttery inside, yum! Ok NOW here’s the review of the location at 750 3rd Ave. More seats and a larger store. Also amazing coffee. Smooth and full flavored. Yum. Got a plain iced coffee with half n half and a blueberry cheese Danish. Yuuummmm. Bliss. Pastry was very fresh and flavorful unlike the Stark ones. Sadly this location confirmed that the blueberry cream cheese croissant is discontinued. Why would you discontinue a favorite and best seller?? As everything is still so perfect, I forgive you 10000! Update: Tried the Cloud pastry! The absolutely most delish thing I’ve had. As the name says, it’s super light and fluffy. The cream has a hint of vanilla and the pastry is...
