Update We go once a week, you cannot keep us away. We tried the beef and chicken recently and while they are still delicious, the lamb is by far the best. Also the khuushuur (mongolian beef empanada) is great I get one every time we go. The momo king is really a nice guy.
Original My fiance saw the momo king on Instagram and really wanted to try it. We found out that he was parked over by west village near my job. Today while we were in the city for a food festival, we decided to have dinner at the momo king.
Let me just tell you, I'm a native new yorker, born and raised in flushing queens. I have experienced a fair share of dumplings and momos, from both restaurants and home kitchens of my friends. Nothing could have prepared me for the momo king. He is truly deserving of that title.
Anyway, we ask for the lamb momo and he told us we would have to wait about 15 min while they were cooking. No big deal, I really wanted the lamb. We sat in the park and enjoyed the music. When it was ready, it was piping hot and it smelled so fantastic. I couldn't wait so I took a bite, my fiance waited for my sign of approval. The juice from the lamb dripped out of the dumpling onto my tongue as I chewed. It was so fresh and delicious. It was savory but not salty with lamb so tender, I couldn't believe I was eating lamb. It was a flavor I will never forget.
I would give the Mongolian Momo King a 10/10 for his lamb momo. I decided to order 2 khuushuur to go (mongolian beef empanadas). While we were waiting the momo king gave me a free sample of the Tsuivan (beef noodle stir fry). It was so tasty, even though I was full I just kept eating. 9/10 for the stir fry sample. It was delicious but the beef was a little chewy. We will be going again on Monday for dinner after work (its Saturday rn). We plan to get another order of lamb momo and try some beef momo. I want to try everything on the menu.
If you are in NY I would recommend going out of your way to get his food. His truck is off of 6th Avenue, closest trains are the ACE at west 4th station.
My fiance's bank is going to wish we never went. I will be there as...
