Who let the dogs out, indeed.
Oh K-Dog serves up a menu of tasty Korean-style hotdogs on a stick as well as egg toast sandwiches. the small spot is squeezed into Ludlow Street on the Lower East Side. the relatively new spot has been creating lines of eagerly hangry patrons since late 2020. OKD is strictly is a grab-n-go spot...translation: no seats. the food is easily portable and makes for great walk-n-chat-n-snack sustenance as you wander the neighbs below Houston Street. there's a flatscreen playing videos w/ sound of young women eating K-dogs from the crunchy bites to the stretchy cheese pulls...food pornography at its best?!
the Oh K-dogs are kinda like corn dogs, but are also completely UNLIKE corn dogs. the hot dog on a stick is basically coated in rice flour and deep-fried to a super crispy outside and and chewy soft inside. there are 9-10 options on the menu. i really like the "half-and-half" (half mozzarella cheese/half hot dog). the outside is so crispy and crunchy, the inside is warm and chewy, the cheese is super melty (so you can get those insane cheese pulls)...you can have the outside of your K-dog rolled in sugar by the staff (ALWAYS HAVE IT ROLLED IN SUGAR). this small add-on creates that savory meets sweet bliss which you dream about. and there's a small sauce station where you can drizzle some additional flavors from ketchup to cheese mustard. the hotdog portion is nothing to write home about bc it is basic in flavor, but everything else is stellar about this walkable bit on a stick. fyi, most dogs are between $4-$6.
SPOILER ALERT: there's always a line.
however, if you seen more than 5 people waiting on line/waiting for their order, come back later unless you like standing outside like a dope for an hour+. the kitchen is quite small, so hence the slowness. the service is chill and friendly. the staff keeps it moving.
$10 is the minimum with credit/debit, so cash is your friend unless you're here with a group or just a glutton...
Read moreWe happened across this place after a trip to the city. I've always wanted to try Korean dogs and was delighted to find this little spot. Ordered the #7 (half mozzarella & half hot dog w/ potato exterior) $7.61. And I think the #10 (full mozzarella only w/ potato exterior). Oh and while they were piping hot, they rolled it in regular white sugar. There's a choice to coat with both white sugar and/or cinnamon sugar, but the white sugar was far better with an added sweetness, but subtle flavor. Go with the white sugar coating only.
And the dipping sauces, so many to choose from. They were all delicious. I tried the sweet chili, honey mustard and garlic sauce with my Korean Dog. Just Amazing punch of flavors!
At first bite, the crunchy potatoes were delicious! Immediately followed by the famous cheese pull. Either I was really starving or it was really that good. Honestly, I couldn't imagine how yummy it was. The half mozz & half dog was nice, however, the hotdog was a little gross because of the soft texture. It didn't seem like a superior hot dog. The focus was more on the exterior. So, with a better hotdog, this would be 10/10. The full mozz was nice, but then it was missing that savory combination. I think bacon would have been lovely with it.
And full disclaimer! This is LES ( lower east side), so the area is grimey. There is no where to sit, just a graffitied standing area with a pet pigeon..lol.
All and all, the cashier was sooo friendly and kind. He honestly made it for a better experience. He took his time to explain the menu and helped us choose some faves.
Giving this spot a 4.2....
Read moreI live near here and walk by this place all the time so the perennially long line piqued my interest and I decided to check it out. I arrived pretty early, before a line had formed, and placed my order in no time. They may have needed to heat the oil or hadn't had enough time to prep in the morning, or something since it took a while to prepare my order (30 mins or so). They're also relatively new, from what I've been told, so the slow roll out may just be growing pains while they figure our their work flow. The corndogs are absolutely massive. The batter is thick and the non-dog fillings are generous as well. The cashier recommended having them coated, some in cinnamon and some in sugar, which I decided to go ahead and do. Ultimately this food just isn't for me. I find it overly decadent, indulgent past the point of pleasure. I may be a clown for getting the sugar and such but it was the batter that threw me off. It's heavy and assertive. It detracts from what's inside. That being said, since the batter alone can feed a village, the bang for your buck is great..but only if you're into that...
