RACISM (I am a young-adult female of color) I didn’t come here to eat, but I had spilled coffee on my bag and on my pants so I politely asked if I could use the bathroom. I was not consulted when I walked in, and I was given nasty looks from the staff. I asked one of the older employees if I could use the bathroom, to which he immediately denied saying I needed to be a customer. Okay fine. I was given disgusting looks the whole time I was talking to the older male employee and I felt very uncomfortable. I told him that I spilled coffee on myself to which he then let me go into the bathroom. After I was done cleaning up, I thanked the older man and as I was walking out the door one of the other male employees who had previously given me dirty looks, said, “you not gonna say thank you” I calmly responded by saying I did say thank you, and then walked out. I’m not trying to say this place is racist, but I was getting a lot of racist vibes. I am a 4’11 female, so I don’t believe that I look like a threat. It was unbelievable and I was so disgusted after I left. I haven’t tried the food here nor will I ever go back, but if you are a person of color I don’t recommend coming here, the atmosphere is highly unpleasant and...
Read moreI think Szechuan food can be very hit or miss. We've had some good tries and some places that are too spicy for the sake of being spicy. So I'm always nervous...but this place hit the spot.
There's a reason the sliced pork belly with chili sauce is pictured on the menu. Aesthetically beautiful and ultimately such a great bite. Slices of pork with a cucumber inside to be smothered in a delicious chili sauce. Could have eaten this dish ten times over.
We also got the peppercorn beef, which was a last minute choice as this wasn't on the menu we had seen online. The beef was great and plentiful. The soup itself...the restaurant is called peppercorn for a reason. It's super numbingly spicy.
Other dish we got was the crab meat sauce. I didn't care as much for this. I didn't realize the crab meat would be mostly pureed into the sauce and that the main draw would be the tofu. It was probably technically well done but not my favorite dish.
Finally, the truffle cauliflower was a dish I was always going to enjoy, and it lived up to my expectations. Super truffly, perfectly crispy. Such a delicious bite.
We made a reservation but for Sunday lunch there were plenty of tables. Quick service. Absolutely worth...
Read moreThe food was great, everything was cooked perfectly. What I had tasted fresh, properly cooked, and definitely not a lot of sugar or other necessary ingredients. My dish was crisp as it was supposed to be, delicious and uncomplicated. Here's the problem… The best dish on the menu, Mala chicken, is only available with hacked chicken, meaning that little bits of chicken full of chicken bone. So every mouthful that you eat, you wind up spitting out bits of bone. The chunks are going are too small to Even see sometimes, so it's not like you can eat around it. I asked him if they could make the same dish but use a different ingredient, like, anything! I'd be happy with tofu, regular boneless chicken, beef, shrimp, anything you could imagine. But they only offer the dish I most want as packed chicken replete with bones. They gave me no logic for that. They simply said this is how it comes. Can't understand why they can't use the same ingredients with a different meat or as a vegetarian dish. If they did, I would definitely be going back. But as it's such a disappointment, despite the delicious dishes I think I'll...
