Roebling Sporting Club — Restaurant in New York

I’ve been here a few times for F1 and always had a fine time. I would have rated this place 5 stars before today! That being said, I tried to get in to see the Spain/england game today. It was incredibly crowded and they seemed to be understaffed. The bouncer was super nice and just apologizing for not being able to let me in but that it was “1 in 1 out policy”. A few folks in front of me got in and I was finally at the front of the line. I was sober and wanted to join a friend inside for the second half. I was in no way rowdy or demanding to be let in. As I stood by the door for about 15 minutes, I witnessed one of the waitresses be so unbelievably rude to people it was shocking. As I waited to be let in, multiple people were coming to the bouncer asking to buy water or help closing their tabs since they were seated at the outdoor area. He would direct them to the waitresses/waiter and when a particular waitress would come outside she would just bark “no” or ignore anyone asking for something, even water and it’s 90° today. I can empathize that it must have been a tough day, drunk soccer fans suck, and they were probably understaffed but she was taking it out on patrons asking for basics. Eventually, I was about to be let in but another server came and told the bouncer they “just couldn’t accommodate anymore people”, “one of the bartenders was ready to cry”, and “they were running out of everything”. I knew it was time to give up then and was ready to head home. My friend inside came to the door to see how I was and to say bye to me. I was in the middle of telling my friend what I had overheard between the waitress and bouncer and that I was going home. All the sudden, the cranky waitress walked by and screamed at me “theres no way you’re getting inside don’t even try”. I was shocked and I just said “yea I know, I’m saying bye to my friend” and she just screamed back “you’re not going inside”. It was pretty shocking behavior and incredibly aggressive for no reason. Like the bouncer was blocking the door, there was no way I could even get past the man if I wanted to try. If she took 5 seconds to read the situation rather than be aggressive, she would have seen that. It felt like she was just taking out her anger on me which I don’t appreciate.

The waitress that seemed to be running everything was obviously stressed but at no point rude to anyone. While she saw me waiting outside in the sun she offered to take my order which I politely declined because she seemed so busy but it was still appreciated!

Anyway, won’t even bother with this place for big sports events moving forward. I wouldn’t have even bothered with a review of my experience today but getting screamed at is the singular reason I’m...

Wasn't too happy with the service.

I arrived around 7 or 8 when things weren't too busy and there was just a disconnect between the staff and myself. I had to wait 25 mins before someone even addressed that I was in the room. Then it was another 10 minutes before I received my drink.

I understand it wasn't anything personal and the staff did appear tired and ready to call it a night. I've worked in the industry so I'm aware of how intoxicated people can wear on you. People don't tend to tip well. They're very rude to the staff and don't appreciate the service they receive. The detrimental response is that the staff tends to turn it down as the night winds down, which causes issues like that.

While I didn't get to sample the food, it did appear appetizing and it seems like people go there for the food.

The decor of the bar fits the male sports bar undertones.

Despite my previous comments, I'm not prepared to condemn a business on just one bad occasion...because people can change and results can be better the next time around.

At the very least I wanna go back and try the wings....and if the food is...

This is my third edit on this place. The service is great, the food is WILDLY inconsistent. The side-by-side photo of the inferno wings (separate visits) reflects how they taste: the left is citrus and properly hot, zesty and earthy and absolutely delicious . The right is bland as all hell, feels like the in house sauce was diluted to cut costs, it’s not even the same color or flavor and I checked to make sure the order was correct. My partner doesn’t eat spicy but she even commented how the color and smell is inconsistent. The ratio of good:bland food is 2:1 and this place isn’t cheap so consistency is expected. My partner has the same complaint about the fish and chips varying from seasoned vs bland and the burgers as well. It feels as if once in a great while someone is diluting a batch of something to cut costs. I’m ready to find better wings. I’ve come here about once a...
