Prepare to embark on a flavorsome journey through Seoul at Samwoojung. As a passionate lover of Korean cuisine, I was enthralled by the authentic and exceptional dining experience this restaurant offers. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a charming ambiance that already had me salivating from the soul.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show—the food. Each dish that graced my table was a true masterpiece. The attention to detail and devotion to authentic flavors really shone through every bite.
I started my culinary expedition with the iconic Seoul-style bulgolgi, flawless with a medley of fresh vegetables. The harmony of flavors and textures was simply phenomenal, leaving my taste buds dancing with delight, and I was astounded by the quality and tenderness. The bulgolgi was succulent and bursting with savory goodness.
The banchan (side dishes) selection was also noteworthy, with an array of small dishes ranging from the crunchy and addictive kimchi, fish cakes, and probably the most extravagant tomato I've ever had in my life. These accompaniments elevated the meal and showcased the chef's dedication to providing an authentic and well-rounded Korean dining experience.
Lastly, I must commend the attentive and knowledgeable staff (Alex) who guided me through the menu and provided excellent recommendations. Their passion for Korean cuisine was evident, and they made sure that every aspect of my dining experience was flawless.
In conclusion, Samwoojung is a treasure trove for anyone seeking a remarkable Korean dining adventure. Whether you're a seasoned connoisseur or new to Korean cuisine, the quality of ingredients, skillful preparation, and genuine hospitality will undoubtedly leave an enduring impression. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to all who appreciate exceptional...
Read moreI was there for a birthday dinner with friends. We had ordered the octopus pajeon, the marinated crab, the small signature bulgogi, mandoo, and the persimmon dessert. This was more than enough for four girls!
My favorite item there was 100% the pajeon. It was super crispy and the octopus was ample. The marinated crab wasn't anything to run home about. The bulgogi truly is so delicious! it just melts in your mouth. We shared a side of rice with the bulgogi. The mandoo was very juicy and the broth was excellent. The mandoo actually comes with three pieces but they added in a fourth piece since there was four of us! I really appreciated that. and the persimmon dessert is super unique. The persimmon itself wasn't overly sweet and I really enjoyed the texture. The ricotta that comes underneath it was questionable though. I didn't think it was a good combination and neither did the rest of my party. Their cocktails were amazing though! would highly recommend it trying c or d.
We had brought in a birthday cake prior to the birthday girl coming. Staff took the cake into refrigeration for us! The one star was docked for when the cake was requested to come out. Maybe it was just us, but we sort of expected the cake to be take out the bag and box and presented by a server. However, the exact opposite happened. I'm not going to say it ruined the birthday surprise because we still had fun and the birthday girl loved her cake. But when bringing out bagged and boxed cake, they provided no knife. Upon request for a knife, they provided a dinner knife... I had considered that maybe it was because the restaurant was closing soon and staff wanted to leave, which I totally understand. But there was a lack of professionalism when it came down...
Read moreI've been meaning to come by for ages! Recently stopped by with a group of 3 for a weekend dinner, we had reservations and it was definitely packed when we got there around 7pm. We had a table on the second floor, which was fortunately a bit smaller/quieter.
We ordered a bunch of dishes to share:
"Seoul-style" bulgogi: this was the one cooked in the broth, and since we had a bunch of other dishes too, we opted for the 400g size. I was a bit worried it wouldn't be enough at first, but it ended up being the perfect amount. The meat was very tender and flavourful, and I liked how the slightly-sweet broth added some depth to the naturally savoury taste of the bulgogi. Other additions like the rice cakes and the eggs were nice, although I didn't understand why we got specific spoons to eat the eggs with.
kkakdugi fried rice: very yummy, the kimchi flavour was excellent without being too overpowering. The various veggies (esp the titular kkakdugi radish) were excellent. I'd definitely recommend this!
cold kimchi noodles: The noodles were a cold, refreshing complement to the richer flavours of the bulgogi, a perfect pairing. They were a bit too soft for my taste, but YMMV. Portion size not the biggest but enough to share.
bossam: delicious! really tender, each piece just melted in my mouth. The kimchi was fairly average, but I liked the (housemade, apparently) ssamjang that also came with it. Portion size also felt small for the price but not too crazy.
Other things of note: The banchan side dishes weren't amazing (the fish in particular was really dry and hard to chew). I liked the barley tea!
Overall not bad, and price point (while high... ish?) was def not unreasonable, esp nowadays in NYC ;-; Would be down...
