I’ve been eagerly waiting for the new Crocs store on 34th Street to open, but after my experience at their grand opening on friday 2/21, I felt compelled to share my story. Unfortunately, my visit turned into something I never expected, and I’m still in disbelief at how I was treated.
I was in the store with my partner, just browsing, when I accidentally bumped into someone near the staircase. I didn’t think much of it, but as I continued walking, I was suddenly grabbed by my arm in an aggressive manner. It wasn’t my partner, it was an employee. To my shock, this employee, a manager named Derrick (didn't know at the time), pulled me toward him and, with a smug attitude, said, "Excuse me, don’t kick me." I was stunned. I had no idea what he was talking about, and his aggressive approach immediately made the situation tense.
I felt forced to respond in a more defensive manner because the interaction was escalating, and his attitude was provoking. After a few heated words, I decided to walk away, but my frustration didn’t subside. I couldn’t just let this go, so I turned back to confront him and made sure I said my piece. I wasn’t about to let him intimidate me in front of everyone.
After the confrontation, I left the store, still feeling enraged. However, after speaking with my partner and cooling down, I went back to report the incident to a manager, as I hadn’t seen one at the time. I spoke with another associate on the second floor, and they offered to call a manager. To my surprise, when they described the manager’s appearance and mentioned his name, it turned out to be Derrick, the very person who had just grabbed me. It became clear why no one stepped in to deescalate the situation, and why other staff members seemed confused or unsure of what was happening.
At this point, I felt it was pointless to stay any longer. I left the store once again, deciding to take the matter up with corporate. But even that proved challenging. I’m now leaving this review in hopes that it sheds light on the unprofessional behavior of this manager. Based on my observations and the comments I’ve seen in other reviews, it’s clear that Derrick's behavior is not an isolated incident. He seems to have an inflated ego and doesn’t appear to care about his role in customer service.
I strongly urge anyone visiting this location to avoid Derrick. His actions were not only inappropriate but could easily escalate into a more serious situation in the future. If this review gets back to him, there are several employees who witnessed the incident, including a short, skinny girl with glasses who was near Derrick when it started, and another associate with dark hair and glasses by the register.
Crocs should seriously reconsider having someone like Derrick in a management position. He should be removed immediately. If not, I fear that a more serious altercation will happen with another customer who might not have the same level...
Read moreMy experience involves my attempts to visit the West Nyack NY store. Crocs' website advertised it would open on 07/25/2020. We arrived Sunday 07/26/2020 to find a note on the door the location is closed due to HVAC issues. I called the NYC Flagship and explained the situation. While they apologized and stated "we have let management know so what happened to you won't happen to anyone else". They persistently sold the concept that coming 50 miles to their store was worth the trip since they were having great sales. We arrived only to find a nearly 2 hour line to enter, outside on the street in 95 degree weather. I called the store to ask, "why didn't you mention the line when I explained I was driving 50 miles to get here?" Then the point came where the salesperson told me, "you are just repeating yourself and wasting your time and my time"... I was furious. A Manager can out, apologized for worker but still said there's nothing that could be done. By this point, all of the people online would have not been allowed entry with only 1.5 hours left until closing. Today I tried to follow up. The website does not allow you to submit email complaints. I reached customer service who volunteered to tell me they are in Europe (Bulgaria) and they know "NOTHING" about the retail stores. I called back to the Flagship and reached another indignant employee who stated they don't have a manager today and do not give out names of managers. He rudely stated "I can only give you customer service." I finally spoke to the store in Florida where we bought the crocs last month. They were helpful... Get your act together.... you are not some mom and pop shoe store.... ...
Read moreFirst off. I don’t do reviews like this (at all). So you know it’s real. I’ve worked retail and know how ridiculous some customers get but this store is a trip! It didn’t bother me that there were a bunch of employees working there and standing in the front not greeting customers just talking amongst each other. It also didn’t bother me that an employee was on his phone texting on the floor. It didn’t bother me either that no one asked me if I needed help the whole time I was on the first floor. I’m the type of person that likes to shop and not be bothered. I just thought it was weird that on 34th street (a major NYC shopping area) that employees don’t give you warm hellos’ and offer help and smile. What bothered me is when I was upstairs and the young lady (who finally did ask if I needed help) was peeking and watching me as if I was stealing. Being black you get used to those stares and almost expect it but I would at least liked to have some kind of kindness or customer service beforehand. A lot of the employees had mean muggin faces like “Why are you staring at me” as if they don’t work there. The whole staff needs to go. I had a stroller and it was shoes on the floor and it was hard to get through. I don’t understand how it’s like 10 people doing nothing and the store isn’t up to par and people are not being helped. The whole staff needs to be fired. And there was a out of service sign on the elevator but it was working? Throw the whole store away. Went in expecting to buy 4 pairs of shoes and left...
