Took my date out for a special dinner. Unfortunately, service was horrendous. Part of the issue is that there was a corporate event with guests being loud and obnoxious and the staff appeared to be short to handle all requests; however, I am not going to make excuses for them. The wait to place our order was over 25 minutes. The prices here have always been ridiculously over the top; however the market price for the Dry aged ribeye steak roasted with herbs, three different types of peppercorn with roasted potatoes, was approx. $145! The famous waiter (whom I recognize for years - having had prior business lunches at this restaurant) even admitted that this was very pricey. The biggest issue I had was the lack of service, or rather prioritizing other customers when my date and I were ahead in terms of being "in line". The waiter and busboys were too busy moving tables to arrange for a larger party (which had not shown up yet) instead of taking our orders, which resulted in frustrating long delays. As a result, I was treated like a second class citizen so this was a deal breaker. Hence, we proceeded to ask for the check to pay for the drinks we ordered and leave immediately (my date was also not feeling too well after a long day at work so the long wait time only exacerbated her fatigue); to the waiter's credit, he did apologize and did not charge us for the drinks. Food is pricey (no surprise...well with a $145 or so market price for ribeye...it is ridiculous); yet the service was horrible.....and while i don' t mind paying for good food/good service at restaurants in the likes of Madison One/Jean Georges/Per Se/Nobu, i have a major problem with bad service and the feeling of being disrespected doesn't sit with me. We left early, having just consumed drinks. Plenty of good restaurants that are more deserving of...
Read moreIf you look at my reviews, you'll see that I'm a generous reviewer-- a lot of 5 stars and no complaints. But San Pietro is an exception.
I arrived with a medium-sized group for lunch, and nobody even gave us menus for the first 20 - 25 minutes. Finally, we had to ask for menus.
After another 15 - 20 minutes, an older "waiter" came by our table, shouted about "specials," and then left-- did not take our order. After yet another 15 - 20 minutes, we asked a random "waiter" who was just walking around if we could finally place our orders. The older "waiter" returned and, whenever somebody placed an order, rudely told them that the item wasn't available (even though it was on the menu).
It turns out that the so-called "specials" were actually the only things available to eat-- not so special, if you ask me. Regardless, we placed our orders and waited. And waited. And waited. During this time, nobody even came to refill our drinks. After about 45 minutes had passed, we asked where our food was and were told "it was coming shortly"-- lol. We waited another 15 minutes and then left. As we were leaving, a San Pietro employee once again told us that our food "was coming shortly." I guess we all have different definitions of "shortly."
In summary, I was at this restaurant for more than 1.5 hours and never received any food or even a drink refill.
I strongly do not recommend. There are plenty of great restaurants in NYC, spend your money there and have a good time-- avoid San Pietro...
Read moreWe had a reservation at 7 pm - get to the restaurant at 6:55 and we got in trouble by the waiter for not calling ahead. The whole meal was chaotic from start to finish. They didn’t refill waters (beware they charge $10 for 1 bottle of water and didn’t even offer tap water as an option).
The food was just ok. We didn’t even get 1 of the dishes we ordered. The portions are very small and some dishes were salty.
The worst part of the meal was when we got our check. Suddenly, our bill had different dishes than what we ordered and we were charged $235 dollars initially. We only got 1 salad, 1 entree pasta, and a small serving of eggplant Parmesan (pictured here) which was the special. We told our waiter about the wrong charges on the bill and he seemed irritated and took the check back. He brought it back with a few dollars knocked off. However the bill was still wrong. The head waiter then comes over and tells us that the eggplant Parmesan was usually $60(!!!) and he gave us a special price and he ended up charging $48 for it. He then up charged the price of all of the dishes we ordered by a few dollars. There’s only a few menus to go around for the whole restaurant so I couldn’t even reference it to double check the prices.
Overall, we paid $134 (so $100 less than what they initially charged us). Between the mediocre food, poor service, and highly inflated prices - we were highly disappointed and would...
