Chanced upon this spot as we were going somewhere else for lunch down the block and decided to opt for it instead. I saw a painting of No-Face from Spirited Away on one of the walls at the corner of my eye and my inner spirit couldn’t help but be excited after seeing that unexpectedly. This place also had something about it being Michelin posted on the door. I was a little confused, but after coming home and researching, I learned that it was 1-star Michelin Guide restaurant, meaning it was rated for high quality cooking.
According to the Michelin Guide site, the rating is based on a 0-3 star system putting into consideration the quality of food based on (1) quality of ingredients, (2) mastery of flavor/cooking techniques, (3) flavor mastery/cooking technique, (4) personality of chef in the cuisine, and lastly, (5) value for money/consistency between visits.
My party of 4 ordered the Pork Katsu Curry, Yaki Curry, Shrimp Curry Udon, Chicken Salad & Miso Soup.
The Yaki Curry is the baked cheese-covered looking dish. It has rice under and the cheese was an orange-kind, probably cheddar or American? I did feel that it was a bit too cheesy for my preference, but it just being rice under didn’t make it too heavy. The Pork Katsu Curry with rice was good. We opted for a level 2 spice (you can choose between 0-5 I believe it was with 5 being the spiciest). Level 2 was very mild that you could barely taste the spice for reference. The curry is on the side so you can choose to pour however much you want on it. The Shrimp Curry Udon was pretty good. The udon was thick, but smooth in so would recommend.
Overall, it was a decent meal. Not necessarily mind-blowing after seeing the Michelin Guide recognition on the outside, but still a good...

Been extremely disappointed in service and attention to detail the last 3 times I've been in. (All 3 times at the new location on St Marks) The food is absolutely to die for, assuming you ever get it. The service and quality control however seems to have been forgotten at the old location.
Every time I've been in (10+ times by now) the service is slow and inattentive, which has been okay because the food more than makes up for it. Since moving to st marks it hasn't made up for it at all. The last time I was in, we had to wait a very long time to order, and when we finally did waited 15min for 4/5 dishes, but then mine took an additional 20 minutes? They were kind and apologetic after it finally arrived, but it was quite strange. Tonight I went back to try again, this time dining solo. It took about 15min to get my order in, about 25 for my curry to arrive, and when it finally came it was completely cold? Not even room temp, cold like from the fridge. I chose this dish because I've had 5 times or so, and it's always been far too hot to eat upon receiving, so I know this was not the way it was intended. I tried to mention to the server, but after waiting 10min without seeing a single staff member, I ultimately left. Huge bummer, because when the food is fresh and actually on your table, it's truly incredible. I get that it's busy and staffing is hard these days, but this is pretty inexcusable.
I hope that management can sort this and bring the restaurant back to what it was on 7th st, my former favorite...
Read moreArrived early and found a parking spot directly in front of the shop on a weekday. The restaurant opens at noon, and ran by a small family. Upon entering the shop you notice how small the space really is, the bar seating seats up to 6-7 people at a maximum. I ordered the tonkatsu curry and tofu udon with chicken katsu side to go. You may choose the level of spiciness which ranges from Level 1(not spicy) to Level 5 (maximum spicy). The tofu udon was at a level 4 spiciness level and tonkatsu at a level 2. Now onto the fried chicken katsu and tonkatsu. The pork tonkatsu order came with a generous 2 filets, while the chicken came with only 1. Perhaps it was the time I had the food in the container while transporting from the restaurant to my place(about 6 minutes) but the meat from both the chicken and pork dishes were pretty dry. The exterior had a nice crisp texture but the color indicated that it may have been overcooked a tad. The curry itself was quite delightful, very sweet and tangy actually which is a nice touch to what you usually see in the more mellow Japanese type curries. I believe in a rush my order was fulfilled to my specifications as my tofu udon(ordered at a level 4 spiciness) had virtually no spice component to it other than the sweet taste of the curry broth. I shall give this place another try, perhaps this time dining in to get the full experience of it all. I also did notice a heavy oil scent in the restaurant while waiting for my food to...
