RH Plus Salon — Local services in New York

A disappointing experience. I’m on holiday and thought to treat myself to a haircut and blow dry in a salon in NYC. RH salon was recommended by a friend, and seeing their positive reviews, I booked an appointment. My stylist was very welcoming and friendly. I explained that I wanted to cut my curly hair, which I usually wear naturally. The cut seemed ok, but nothing to write home about. Then I asked for a blow dry, and to have my hair wavy, rather than straight. When she was done I was very surprised to see how poorly done it was, it looked as if it was done by an amateur. So I asked her to use the curling iron, which she did, but again the finish was very amateurish, looking as if I had done it myself at home… I didn’t want to be a difficult client, so I paid, tipped and left. After washing my hair and wearing it curly, I found that the cut was really bad, had that pyramid shape which did not at all compliment my hair nor my face shape. I ended up going to another salon to get a better haircut. Overall, not at all what I expected from a salon in Manhattan. I have been getting haircuts from Shin for over a year now and he is worth more than his weight in gold. Always provides a clean fresh cut and adjusts the style to my specifications. He has excellent bedside manner and can gauge whether to maintain conversation or just let me space out/fall asleep during the haircut (I work a lot of nightshifts). Highly recommend Shin!! I’ve been getting my hair cut with him for about a year now; he used to be a short walk from where I live in Brooklyn, but even though he’s now 40 minutes away, it’s worth it for me to make the trip out to see him.
