Tall Poppy in Chelsea won me over despite the sticker shock. I walked in knowing I was about to over $40 on three small pastries and a cold brew, and somehow walked out with zero regret.
I came specifically for the Shakshuka Croissant. Itâs filled with harissa-spiced tomato sauce, a soft jammy egg, and crumbled feta. On paper, it sounds incredible. Visually, it delivers. But mine wasnât warm, and unfortunately they donât have any way to reheat pastries. That definitely took something away from it. I kept thinking how amazing it must taste fresh out of the oven.
But then the Everything Cruffin absolutely saved the day. Itâs a croissant-muffin hybrid with housemade bagel seasoning and chive cream cheese inside. Unreal. The texture, the flavor, the cleverness of the concept. Itâs what Iâll be coming back for.
The Black Forest Croissant was also a star. Flaky and buttery, with a just-right bitter dark chocolate ganache and tart dried cherries inside. Not too sweet, not too rich. Just perfect.
Coffee was forgettable, but the service wasnât. Staff were friendly, quick, and happy to explain everything. You can tell they take pride in what theyâre doing.
Tall Poppy is not the kind of place you swing by every day, unless youâre living in a different financial reality. But when you need a treat, something special, itâs absolutely worth...

I want to start with saying I love the pastries here - they are phenomenal. However, I picked up a cinnamon roll and a savory roll this morning and the way they were packed was absolutely psychotic and nonsensical. After leaving the shop I realized the cinnamon roll had been packed in the paper bag frosting side down meaning the frosting smeared totally off the cinnamon roll and all over the paper bag interior. It also started bleeding through the paper because duh itâs paper and then got all over the savory roll too. I ended up having to throw both pastries out bc it was such a mess and inedible and the bag was soaked through as I was walking home. I was super upset as it meant wasting $20 worth...
Read moreIt has now become one of my favorite bakeries. Outstanding croissants and buns. Overall strong flavors and on the sweet side. Good on a day you are craving sweet or deserve treats. Technically a take-out only spot, but now they put some chairs and tables outside.
đĽâ¤ď¸âđĽâ¨Croissant was a MUST! The dough was sooooo professionally made. Crispy layers, soft, chewy and pliable. đThe fig one was really really delicious with a great balance between sweetness and saltiness. The Black Forest one was a little bit too intense (and no cherry flavors at all) but definitely for chocolate lovers.
Buns are a YES. It was so soft, a little bit chewy and still pliable. However, flavors were really sweet. (just a reminder) Classic cinnamon one was straightforward. Thai tea flavor was...
