Tartine in the West Village is a charming little gem that I had the pleasure of discovering recently, and my experience there was nothing short of delightful. My initial encounter with this quaint restaurant was serendipitous, as I stumbled upon it while passing by during the filming of the hit HBO show “And Just Like That,” featuring Sarah Jessica Parker and John Corbett. Intrigued by the lively atmosphere and the bustling scene, I decided to return the next day for lunch.
Upon my arrival, I was immediately drawn to the restaurant's cozy ambiance, reminiscent of a classic French café. The warm, inviting decor and intimate seating create a perfect setting for a leisurely meal. The outdoor seating area is particularly lovely, providing a serene escape in a quiet neighborhood lined with trees. It felt like a little slice of Paris right in the heart of New York City.
For lunch, I opted for the iced tea and the French onion soup, both of which were absolutely delicious. The iced tea was refreshing and perfectly brewed, a great complement to my meal. The French onion soup, on the other hand, was a standout dish. It was rich and flavorful, topped with a generous layer of melted cheese and served piping hot. Each spoonful was comforting and satisfying, making it clear that Tartine takes pride in its culinary offerings.
The service was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall pleasant dining experience. The staff seemed genuinely happy to be there, which contributed to the welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant.
In conclusion, my visit to Tartine was a delightful experience that exceeded my expectations. The combination of delicious food, cozy ambiance, and friendly service makes it a perfect spot for a leisurely lunch or a casual dinner. Whether you’re a local or just visiting the West Village, I highly recommend stopping by Tartine. It's a charming escape that captures the essence of a French café while offering a taste of delicious comfort food. I can’t wait to return and explore more...

Some places feed you more than food—and Tartine is one of those rare, irreplaceable spots.
Tucked into the dreamiest little corner of the West Village, Tartine is where my husband and I had our very first date night. It’s where he took me for my first birthday after we met. And later, it’s where we shot part of our wedding photos. Even my husband’s colleagues gifted us wedding anniversary gift card from Tartine ! That’s how personal this place is to us.
We’ve been back more times than I can count, and it’s never just about the food (though the food is always good). It’s about the energy, the people, the warmth. The staff are some of the kindest you’ll meet in New York—no pretense, just genuine hospitality. Even though they don’t take reservations, you never feel rushed or forgotten. People wait patiently, because everyone seems to know: it’s worth it.
The food? Honest. Generous. Comforting. There’s nothing overly fussy—just really well-made dishes that feel like home. My go-to is the crab cake when it’s available (an underrated gem), and if you’re lucky, the white frosted cheesecake will be on the menu—soft, light, and absolutely dreamy. My husband swears by the burger. The menu changes often enough to keep things exciting, but the soul of it stays the same.
In summer, Tartine is extra magical. The leafy West Village corner, the big windows, the sunlight filtering in—it’s the kind of spot you want to sit at for hours with someone you love. But even on a rainy or gloomy day, something about it lifts your mood. It just feels good to be there.
Tartine may not be flashy or trendy, but that’s exactly why we love it. It’s one of those truly underrated places that deserves to be cherished—and we’ll keep coming back, again...

inside, you’ll find bright lights and a cohesive, blue nautical themed vibe. service was friendly and attentive; our food took awhile to arrive but when it did, i was impressed with how beautifully each dish was presented.
my group of 4 shared the following 4 dishes, which were each $18 (** = especially recommend):
** grey goose cured scottish salmon: the combination of all the ingredients in this beautiful dish provided an eclectic variety of flavors. the cold salmon was fresh and flavorful and melted so subtlely in the mouth. it paired wonderfully with the warm potato pancake and the other veggies—red onion, capers, lemon, etc.— which provided the perfect final tangy kick.
** gravlox toast: another excellent and aesthetic salmon dish that tasted fresh and refreshing, though the toast itself could have been crispier.
baked eggs with lamb sausage: the sausage was cooked a little too dry, but it had a nice, bold flavor. the eggs were perfectly poached and the tomato sauce was hearty and flavorful— i was scraping it off the bowl by the end!
tunisian breakfast: plenty of veggies which were cooked and seasoned well. the eggs were also well poached, but this was probably the least memorable dish that we ordered and probably wouldn’t get it again.
i also got a hot latte, but they didn’t have any substitute milk options which was unfortunate and surprising… but it was still good.
overall, i recommend this spot to come with friends for a cute brunch with memorable...
