New York | Italian Cuisine 🍕🍝 | Hidden Gem with Ooey-Gooey Pizza

I thought the Limone pizza was excellent. As someone who used to make pizzas in a pizza shop, this is a pizza I'm still thinking about and would return to try again. It was unique, sharp and tart, but well balanced with the creaminess of the ricotta. Usually I don't go for ricotta on pizzas, either! The hand-made Gimelle pasta paired with spring peas and a pesto/pistachio was also phenomenal. SO GREEN. And really good. Service was excellent. Friendly and attentive. We couldn't make a reservation for a party of 8, nor can you even contact this restaurant directly; there's only a general line for Tin Building and an events email address that certainly did not respond to me. So we had to trust that a walk-in would be available. While I'd been told on the phone we'd be able to push two tables together, that wasn't the case, so we had two separated tables of four. Drinks are pretty expensive. The food isn't cheap either. It's also not outrageous for this level of quality. I'd go back! I also thought it was pretty cool that this menu doesn't really push meat. There are barely any meat dishes on the menu and I think that's a good thing for the future of the planet. Update: went back with wife for date day. She loved it. Agreed the pizza was excellent. Sad to see the Gemelli missing from the menu, but alas. I did discover you can order any beer from the larger bar menu. We also spent some time exploring the rest of Tin Building's wares, which was fun.

Of all the things we ordered at Frenchman’s Dough, I really loved the spicy sausage pizza and the shrimp scampi. Both were super flavorful and even better with a sprinkle of pepper flakes. The pizza was meaty and had that sweet oniony kick I love, and the pasta had a generous amount of shrimp with fresh noodles (I know they were fresh because I’m basically an adopted Italian, lol just kidding). The atmosphere here is super posh but still relaxed. It feels upscale without being stuffy, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive from start to finish. So why only 4 stars, you ask? They really need to step up their game with the appetizers. On our first visit, we ordered the calamari and it was overcooked and way too salty because of the parmesan. This time, we tried the yellowfin tuna tartare and it tasted overly green and grassy to the point that the freshness of the tuna got lost. It feels like they’re still figuring out how to let the main ingredients shine in their apps, which is a bit of a letdown. Also, the napkins. They were so linty. Everyone at the table ended up with lint on their clothes after putting the napkins on our laps. This seems like a small thing, but it’s the kind of detail that really sticks out. They need to change their napkins or at least fix whatever is causing that issue. All that said, I’d still come back for the mains. The pizza and pasta are more than worth it.

Came to the Frenchman’s Dough to partake in their pre show pre fix dinner prior to seeing a show on pier 17 rooftop. I received the offer via email after purchasing tickets to the show where they advertised as a pre show dinner just steps away from the venue and offered pre paid pre fix and reservation. I liked the idea of a meal before the show and the fact that it was “designed” to get you fed and to the show on time. It was also fairly priced for 3 courses which Included salad and calamari for the table and then an individual pizza each (margarita or sausage) . My husband and I showed up on time for our reservation and were immediately seated by a super friendly host. We had an hour until the show started and felt that was enough to have a drink, eat and maybe miss the first 10 minutes of the opener. It became quite clear, however, that we likely would me much later. It took 10 minutes before we got poured water and 15 minutes for our waitress to actually take our order. She was very sweet, but didn’t really know how the prefix worked. We then had to ask for drink menus as she had not brought us any or offered beverages aside from water. She brought the menus but disappeared again. A manager noticed me looking around and came to take our drink order. Once all orders were in, we waited a decently long while before we received our salad and drinks. At this point we had been there about 35 minutes and the drink and salad came out at the same time. Then the calamari. Both were good. At 5 minutes till our show started, our pizzas had not come out yet. My husbands pizza came out about 5 minutes after mine. We basically scarfed down a few slices and waived down our waitress to ask for check. Then had to hand her our card as she walked passed us to another customer because at that point we were 25 minutes into the show and still had to get over to the venue. When we asked the host where the entry was to the venue, he did not know. I found that weird, considering this entire experience was advertised as a pairing to the show And conveniently located close by. All in all, I was disappointed with the experience that turned out to be a little stressful due to the slowness of the service. Normally, I don’t mind slower service and taking our time, but under the circumstances where it seemed like the sales pitch for this prefix was a preshow dinner, and convenient location to the venue, I feel it warranted being...

I'm surprised to see this restaurant has such good service reviews. This is probably the worst service I've had at a restaurant, especially one where the food itself was $100!

We ordered a cocktail and iced tea, mozzarella sticks, caesar salad, two entrees, and dessert as part of restaurant week. They brought out the mozzarella sticks which were tasty. Then about 10 minutes later a waiter brings my pasta before they even brought my appetizer. I let them know we hadn't had the salad yet, she takes back the food. Few minutes later she plops it back on our table with no explanation. Salad comes 5 minutes after that so we just eat the salad while my bolognese gets cold on the table. We asked a few times about our drinks, which we have yet to receive, and the waitress keeps telling us its coming. My partner's chicken parm comes out which was tasty but it is literally meat on a plate. No sauce, salad, or pasta which I thought was strange. The waiter doesn't clear our finished salad and appetizer plates and they sit there for the remainder of the meal.

We STILL don't have drinks! She comes back after we're halfway through the entree and the cocktail is warm and there is something inside my iced tea. She's still standing there while I try to pull it out. It looks like a wet stick (maybe?). It was brown and 4-5 inches in length. (After further thought it might be an old straw wrapper that was steeped with the tea because it was a brown color, but who knows!). She takes it back and doesn't bring me another one. So after I'm done with my pasta, I walk up and tell her not to bother with the tea since we were done with our meal.

The ice cream was good, but it was truly like 3-4 tablespoons of ice cream. I wish I had taken a picture so you all could see how tiny it was. There were a ton of waiters and bus people and it was not packed. We were there on a Tuesday at 6:30. There was zero excuse for how terrible the service was at this nice restaurant.

The ambiance is nice and was probably the only redeeming quality. For a meal that came out to over $100 (not including drinks), it was abysmal. Definitely will never...

The rating truly comes from the service… For such a well staffed restaurant, the service was terrible. The food is best described as trying to be higher end mediocre Italian food.

We were a group of four. We came to eat at 9 so it wasn’t busy. There was definitely a good amount of staff relative to how many tables were occupied.

We sat down and waited a long time for any staff member to acknowledge us. Finally, someone greeted us and asked if we want water. We said yes but waited again for an exuberant amount of time to get that water.

We then proceeded to order a bottle of red and single glass of white as well as a bread basket, salad, two pizzas, a pasta and chicken parm.

After a long time went by we still didn’t have any drinks. We stopped the staff to ask them several times if we can please have the wine. That staff member apologized and said the bar was very backed up, which it wasn’t as I was looking right at the bar. The bar was not full only a few high chairs occupied and the restaurant is not even close to full.

Instead of giving us our bread and salad first with our wine, we got the food in one shot, while still waiting for our bottle and glass of wine.

Would have been great if we could have had our bread with wine before the food came. Maybe even our salad before the pizzas, pasta and chicken parm. Just felt rushed and that the staff really didn’t care. Anyways, the wine finally came midway through our meal. Zero compensation or apologies.

Regarding the food, the bread was a menu item and was not great. The salad wasn’t exciting. We asked for arugula on our margarita pizza, the waiter kept reminding us how graceful the chef was for making an exception to allow arugula on our pizza. Lastly, the chicken parm was just a lonely small piece of chicken with cheese, nothing else.

I do not recommend this restaurant due to lack of professionalism by the staff, subpar food, and an unjustified price relative to the food and...
