Nice clean restaurant and the staff is friendly. Sadly the food has gone downhill somewhat. I ordered a falafel sandwich with baba ganoush.
I'm kind of a falafel maven, having eaten countless falafels from all over the planet for about 50 years.
Here's the problems: Falafel needs to be served immediately after frying. This place served quarter-sized balls that had been pre-cooked and so they were not crunchy. If you cook them as balls (as opposed to discs), they need to be flattened when inserting into the pita. You can only do that if they are crunchy (freshly fried) The baba ganoush was laden with mayonaisse or something of the sort. Not good. Tomatoes clearly had been refrigerated...they were mealy. Cucumbers that have thick skin should be peeled Pita should be seared on the grill. This place does not do that Falafel restaurants really should have bottles readily available to the customer with sauces, like techina or harissa. You have to ask for them at this place. The falafel itself was kind of tasteless. They need to fix their recipe; maybe go with the Mamouns type or research some of the places in Tel Aviv. All in all I would not return to this place if they don't fix at least 5...
Read moreNot a fan at all! I gave it two tries and both fell flat. I wanted to make sure that I wasn't too hard on them because I'm a big big fan of NAYA! Like, the loyal kind that would work there for free (aka volunteer 😉), but I digress. This review is on The Hummuus and Pita Co. I don't eat meat so I ordered falafel (the same I would at Naya..and yes, I've been to every single Naya location in NYC and waiting for the one in MetroTech to open, but again, I digress☺️. I noticed alot of similarities as I ordered my toppings, but what is annoying is the upcharge for alot of their toppings😮💨. No bueno! The falafel was not tasty. The whipped garlic was so strong and overpowering that it was just not good and I couldn't eat it. I like that they had different flavors of hummus and they also have plant based meat which was a good option. I got the plant based meat the second time I visited and the entire time I ate it, I wondered what exactly I was eating. Also, the vermicelli is not plant based and has eggs. That's weird and not something I'm used to from the other Mediterranean restaurant located all around the city that I'm a big fan of and would volunteer for that shall rename...
Read moreI love this place! I’ve been dying to try this place since I saw a vegan shawarma ad on gold belly and noticed I live right across the park from this chain! The food was amazing, I got a vegan shawarma bowl and the shawarma was very good! the Persian potatoes were my favorite side along with the fried eggplant. I wouldn't get the strawberry chickpea chiller again but I like it enough to try the other flavors like butter pecan. It was a little expensive but I did get a lot of sides in the bowl to try like roasted veggies and falafel which were extra but sooooo delicious, and I have enough to share andddd eat for lunch the next day and I’m stuffed. Everything was so fresh and delicious and the inside looks really nice when I went to pick up my food. I’ll deff be back and...
