Usagi is a nice, small multi-purpose shop in the DUMBO area, combining an art gallery. book/home goods store, and cafe all into one. The Japanese inspiration is there, and the space is minimal but has a good amount of seating.
The staff were friendly, though a bit rushing since it was understaffed. The line was pretty long and it took around 30-40 minutes until we were ordering, and even then the staff rushed us to order so it felt a bit odd. The drinks did come out fast, but only after a 2nd staff member joined them in the front.
As for the drinks, it was alright. It did get watered down fast, though they use a good quality matcha powder. The Onigiri was also good, but the fillings were a bit lacking and there was more rice. For that price, I would say it wasn't that worth it, but a good filling snack. We also tried a Financier bread, though the staff said it was a different bread even though it was labeled as Financier. It was a bit too dry for my liking, though the other person I was with enjoyed it very much.
Overall it was a nice experience to go and sit around, study at, and maybe get a drink or two, but I'd have to try...
Read moreWOW!! Incredible place. I stopped in here and didn’t expect it to be so amazing. So many seating options, comfortable cozy nooks. Delicious food. I will come back here many more times. So glad I found this place. There were a lot of people there doing work, but there were still plenty of seats - they had sofas, comfy chairs, desks, tables, hightops, armchairs. They even put their napkins out in a beautiful fanned shape. Awesome lighting as well- not too bright. I got a lot of work done here. Drip coffee was a little too bitter for my taste - I got it because it was the cheapest. I was going to get Matcha but it was 7 dollars - standard price for around here, but still of course expensive. Drip coffee was 3.5 I believe. I got the sweet potato bun and it...
Read moreUsagi has the best matcha lattes and so many other delightful Japanese teas! I’ve tried a few different ones and they’re always prepared perfectly. I had their food for the first time this trip and everything was flavorful and delicious. I loved the little side salad that came with the rice balls, such a nice compliment to the dish.
I really love the concept of this place, how it’s also part art gallery and part bookstore. It’s so fun to see different art installations when I visit. I picked a fascinating sci-fi novel by a Japanese author there a few months ago and it was a great read. It was exciting since it was published by a smaller press and I’d never seen it in bookstores before.
All in all, I highly...
