I came home from the airport at 11:30 pm after a 15 hour flight from Shanghai to New York. In the cab on the way home, I desperately began to hunt on seamless trying to find anything to fill my belly. I saw "Szechuan chili house"'and thought to myself, this must be a mistake. How can a Chinese place, on the east side, deliver to me, on the west side at 12 am? My skeptical thoughts were put to an end once I called and confirmed that I could indeed put Chinese food in my mouth within the next half hour.

Even though I love authentic szechuanese food, I stuck with the good old American General tsao and pork fried rice. 25 minutes later, a chilly and shivering chinamen handed over the goods and I rushed back upstairs.

I ripped the bag open and was greeted with crispy, sweet, and delicious fresh white meat General tsao. It wasn't the best I've had, but I was completely satisfied considering the fact I put in an order around midnight. If you are up in the late hours in the night and want something other than dominoes or insomnia cookies, give Wa Jeal Szechuan chili...

We called late last night for friends who arrived from out of town bit craved some Chinese. My regular place was closed at 10. Was shocked to learn they closed at 9.30. Remember when that would have been unheard of in Manhattan? This place too, was closing bit they were so kind, and took our order delivering a delicious hot meal. They ordered Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. The shrimps were large and fresh, a tofu dish which was light and so delicious, the egg rolls and spring rolls were just as they should be, vegetable dumplings were ample (not thin) and tasty. Someone wanted cod sesame noodles and he dish as quite yummy. All else we ordered was just very nice and delicious. They included plenty of accouchements. The plastics were not flimsy but nice too. I recommend using this very pleasantly run establishment. And , I also thank them being so very kind and going the...

Christmas DInner couldn't have been better or more interesting. I have been eating Chinese food for about 85 years varying from pushcarts to 4 star palaces, Wa Jeal is very good for service and the prices are relatively reasonable. We will be back real soon. I am now editing the original from a couple of months ago after having my second superb meal at Wa Jeal.

The dining room is quite small and could be noisy, but somehow it isn't with a lot of soft materials keeping the sound reflection under control. The service is really outstanding. The waitstaff appear by magic every time there is even a chance of a need. So thoughtful. My main reason for not permanently moving in is that we live on the other side of town in a neighborhood well populated by good restaurants. And we ancients are not about to pick up and move, not while there are still...

Wa Jeal is a must go for Sichuan cuisine. We order the general tso chicken, fish with chili peppers and chicken fried rice. The fish was amazing! The filet was fried but you could not tell. The garlic and peppers were a nice touch. The chicken was ok. It seemed over cooked. The fried rice was delicious. Wa jeal can be a little pricey but I am sure that is because of the location. Lastly i ordered a lychee martini cocktail which I would not recommend as i don't think it was made right. They get four stars because their service was really good.

An hole in the wall Szechuan restaurant at UES. The spicy is numbing, tofu a bit over cooked, chicken good size and ratio to chili. A very good place, everything came out fast, and is authentic from former Michelin chef. Has since upgraded the decor a lot, much more refined. Like the whole fish, still tender under the sauce. Could use more heat on Chongqing chicken, Lotus root a big different than what I expected, a bit bland. Pea shoot and eggplant were delicious. Sliced tea smoke duck infused with flavor, will try the half duck next time.

I had an appointment near here and decided to bring home Singapore noodles for dinner. I paid over $20 with tax. I got a medium size container and 90% of what I took home were vermicelli noodles. There are maybe three tiny shrimp I saw one piece of pork, a little bit of chicken and two or three green peppers and a little onion. it was a very expensive takeout for a whole lot of noodles. No structure underneath. Very disappointed and will never order from here again.
