I had a bad experience buying take out at Xi'an Foods Flushing location tonight (41-10 Main St, Flushing, NY 11355). The cashier girl and the chef were very rude, nasty and unprofessional.
I ordered two burgers and two noodle soups to go, when I picked up the order and I noticed the soups and noodles were mixed in one container. Because I needed to ride the train back home, I was concerned the noodle soups would become mushy after a long ride home, so I asked why can't they put the soup and noodles into a separate containers. This is what most of the restaurants will usually do for takeout noodle dishes.
The cashier girl first stated that "this is our restaurant's policy that we never separate the noodle and soup", and she said to another male cashier: "just give her a container let herself to separate the noodles." She then looked at me said: "if you are not happy, you can complain on our website." So I am complaining ^_^
When I take a picture of their website info, the girl cashier called their chef out. The Shanghainese chef came out looked at me demand said: "We never ever put noodles and soups into a different containers. We only welcome eating-in not take out".
At the beginning I was going to keep the order and go home, and make a comment on this, however their unreasonable excuses and rude attitude, I changed my mind and requested to return the noodle soups and get refund. The chef and the girl cashier strongly refused to return the money. During this time, the chief kept using his Shanghainese to curse me (I'm from Shanghai and understood exactly what he said). Finally when I decide to call the police, then the chef called the restaurant manager to return my money. Even during the return process, the girl cashier and chef kept up their extreme rude attitude and cursing. I don't care how tasty their food is, I will never go back this location of Xi'an Foods, as matter fact I will never eat at Xi'an Foods again. If I could give them 0 stars I would. As you can see the owner's response below, very unfriendly and arrogant response to defend his staff even though he didn't witness the incident, proving my point in the...

Read moreXi’an Famous Foods became the Flushing choice for dinner after reading through countless Reddit threads and after watching Mark Wiens feature the restaurant on his YouTube channel. While they have opened up a few more restaurants throughout the city, I was most curious to try out their Flushing location.
Luckily the place was not busy by the time I arrived (5:00PM), but around 10-15 minutes after, food delivery services and locals stopped in to order. The menu is quite small and simple, but they are most known for their Spicy Cumin Lamb Noodles (N1), which has a numbing and tingly spicy that slowly creeps up on you as you eat it. The owner of the restaurant best recommends the “regular spicy” option if you are a first timer, but you may adjust the amount of spice to your taste. I do happen to hold a higher tolerance for spicy food, so I didn’t think it was unbearable by any means. What is featured in their dishes are their hand-pulled noodles, as advertised all over their restaurant.
Upon receiving my order, I first noticed how large the portion was and how thick and long the noodles were. I paid about $10 for the dish (not including drink), which was more than reasonable. Picking up the noodles with my chopsticks proved to be a challenge, but once I took a bite, I immediately fell in love with the dish that I did finish my whole plate. The lamb was so tender and complemented well with the cabbage and scallions. The noodles were so chewy and very fresh, but went so well with the spicy sauce. I also tried out their tea which was a wonderful and refreshing pairing.
Please come to this place if you’re in Flushing, and you are in for a treat. It’s a must to sit down to eat this dish to truly enjoy the freshness of...
