Overall - the espresso was bad (too sour), and the barista making it (a man) wasn't nice, although the person taking my order was (a woman). The cookies are pretty good.
I was excited to try Yanni's the other day when I came across them because they get a 4.7 overall. It was busy when I came in but the line moved quickly. The place smelled amazing, and the people in front of me told me to try the cookies (which were what smelled great!). This is true- they don't look all that appetizing, but they were warm and not too crispy or too soft. I can recommend those!
My issue was the espresso itself and the service from the guy at the machine. I was a barista and know what good espresso should taste like and what decent service looks like. I always order a double espresso, ice on top, and add about a 1-2 Tbsp of half & half myself. More and more places won't let you pour the milk yourself, which is ridiculous - it's such a specific thing! Please let your customers do this. Anyway, when the guy was pouring the milk, he did it very slowly, which I appreciate, but I let him keep going, and he seemed annoyed that I did't say "when" and finally he just stopped. I asked for a bit more and he ignored me just put the cap on the milk! I was like fine, it's enough milk, but then I tasted it, and it was just sour. I've never felt comfortable telling a barista when the espresso isn't good. It's just awkward. It takes them time to adjust the grind of the beans and there was a line, so I just left. Maybe they had an off day (the barista AND the machine) willing to pull another shot. After his curt behavior about the milk, I didn't...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreWith the disappearance Cafe Grumpyās Chelsea location, this is easily my new favorite place in the neighborhood for specialty coffee. They serve Sey roasters, which is phenomenal if you love ultra-light roasted, washed coffees. Iām sure they throw some other beans into the mix from time to time, but my impression was that this is their thing at this point. The baristas are knowledgeable and friendly. When buying beans, they list the farm as well as how much the company paid for green coffee. Talk about transparency! The cost is ānot cheapā but completely understandable considering the quality of the product. I had an espresso shot in house that was fruity, bright, and delicious. Overall, Iām a huge fan and will definitely be...
