Young Ethel's — Restaurant in New York

If I were able to give 0 stars I would. I searched this bar online google and thought it would be cool to go with my boyfriend. What I thought was an open-mic/performance night in the back room was actually being used for a political fundraiser. That was fine — we stayed and listened — but when my boyfriend asked a polite, respectful question, several people in the crowd started yelling aggressive and antisemitic things at us. It became very uncomfortable, and instead of calming things down, the staff asked US to leave. We felt completely disrespected and unsafe. I’m sharing this because everyone deserves to be treated decently, no matter their background or beliefs. Young Ethel's is exactly what a neighborhood bar should be: a fun and light atmosphere to drink, with the added bonus of a stage for showcasing local music and comedy. I'd been to this spot in its previous incarnations and had some underwhelming experiences (to say nothing of former owners' obnoxious reputations). Ethel's qualifies as a huge improvement over its predecessors on drink quality and service alone, but they also do a great job of welcoming local talent and being a positive presence in the community. My friend wanted to introduce us to some of his preferred local bars, and our first destination was Young Ethel's. This charming, unassuming spot is a favorite among locals.
