UPDATE ON GEORGIE'S - Okay... (8/26/25) Yesterday was my thirtieth wedding anniversary. I called ahead to Georgie's and reserved a table for the two of us.
We arrived at five thirty and were immediately taken to our table as some waited around the hosting desk. Honestly people, this was the best part of our Georgie's experience last night.
Things only got worse after we departed this establishment. Until last night, my wife LOVED Georgie's... however, all that changed after eating a corner of her baked potato. More on that further down.
I had the Cesar Salad starter ($10.95) and ordered the Rib Eye steak with garlic mashed potatoes and veggies ($46.95). My wife had the Top Sirloin with baked potato and veggies ($28.95). Our total bill was $89.10 before I added a 20% tip ($17.82) bringing out final total to $106.92... [sigh of disappointment] 🤕
We have eaten here many times over our years of living on the Oregon coast. This, in my opinion - was the worst experience we've had. And, according to my wife officially? Was our last Georgie's experience!
Simply put, Georgie's is a status symbol experience for people in the Newport area. Being seen eating there, apparently, is a big deal! It has NEVER been that way for me.
Georgie's is falling behind other newer dining experiences within the Newport area. And here's why...
Pricing to quality and quantity of food is off the charts astronomical! Service quality (even on a slow weekday) is equal to or can easily be beaten by any random Denny's location. Cleanliness of tables, dining area in general, and dated atmosphere is becoming similar to a nursing facility dinning hall. Flatware was wrecked! I had two forks in my napkin when I unrolled it and both fork tines (or prongs) were bent to the point, eating became very difficult. Dirty tables and dreadfully spotted glasses.
I've only really cared for Georgie's for my wife's benefit. But after she tucked into her baked potato last night, her reaction ("...this potato tastes funny!") and ensuing night-long intestinal distress was MORE than enough to sour her on ever returning! I never thought I would see the day! It was quite unfortunate that it had to happen on our anniversary...
I ate every scrap of my food. Scale of 1-5 (five being best) - 2
My salad over $10.00 must have had less than four ounces of material. My steak was thin (cooked per my request) but latent with fatty gristle. Not what I expected for my celebratory dinner! My garlic mashed potatoes were actually scrumptious! But my veggies were incredibly over salted! I commented to my wife, "Anyone with high blood pressure would have a hard to after eating those veggies!"
The whole experience was beyond disappointing. Especially for our big night! We had to box up 98% of my wife's plate to bring home. As soon as we walked in the door after returning home... My wife ordered me to throw her meal in the trash.
I always try to be positive with my reviews. If you have read this far... Remember, I did complement my mashed potatoes.
We are DONE with Georgie's! Last night was a disaster for my wife. She wall sick all night.
If you are looking at dinner at Georgie's, all I can say is caveat emptor. This is all my personal opinion but it is an honest review of our experience last night.
PEACE ✌🏼 OLDER POST - THE MOST SPENDY PLACE IN NEWPORT!!! Having said that, we enjoyed a lovely dinner here last night for my wife's 50th birthday! Everything was excellent, but come prepared to drop serious coin at this location, folks! THE priciest place in Newport. When a cup of their oatmeal is $12?!?!? Expect to refinance your house when eating here! Was it worth it for her birthday? Yes! Will I ever go back? Probably not unless my wife makes me! We've been married for nearly 30 years folks - which means I eagerly await death,...
Read moreI had a reservation here last Saturday, March 29th for 15 people and had a very disappointing experience. I made a reservation back on March 8th for 5:00 pm for my bachelorette party. We show up and are told it’ll be a few minutes. No problem! 5:10…. 5:15…. 5:20 rolls around and we’re told there’s a group still sitting at one of the tables needed for our reservation. They’re able to put 11 of us together at the main table and 4 at a nearby booth. A few minutes later the group leaves and our 4 other guests are able to join. The staff bussed and cleaned the addition table quickly which was appreciated.
The manager, whose name I didn’t grab, comes over and apologizes and offers us some complimentary appetizers which again, was really appreciated. Our sever Shawn comes, takes our order. We get drinks and are waiting for our food. When our food arrived, our server had an extremely hard time remembering who ordered what and there was a lot of confusion trying to get everyone their food. Several people got the wrong salad or soup which was disappointing, and we had to help her figure out where every single entree went. The food was tasty tho. I did also get a free slice of cheesecake at the end, which again was appreciated.
Then it came time for the checks… just to clarify first, at the very beginning of the meal our server ASKED us if we wanted separated checks and we said yes. Once we’re done eating, our server brings out boxes and goes “okay, I’ll be back with a million separate checks.” There were 15 of us. I understand that might be a larger group than they’re used to at Georgie’s, but the attitude was not necessary especially given she knew this well ahead of time. Maybe she thought it was a funny joke, but after everything else it was not appreciated. When she brings the checks out, over half of them were wrong. People are getting charged for things they didn’t order, people are getting other peoples food or drinks, etc. It took probably a good half hour for our entire group to get cashed out. Half of us were stuck waiting in the lobby for about 10-15 minutes while our server was in the back trying to sort out the rest of our checks. The really cherry on top was when the appetizers we told were complimentary because we had to wait 20 minutes past our reservation time, still showed up on our checks so we had to specifically ask to have them removed, alongside the several other errors. It is especially upsetting that their is an automatic large group tip added on for what felt like extremely sub-par service at best.
I haven’t mentioned this so far because I don’t want to be THAT person, but I have worked in a high paced restaurant for almost 10 years now and was shocked at the level of service we received at what I thought was a nicer end restaurant. As I said earlier, I understand that this may have been a bigger group than they’re use to, but it would have been nice if our server could have been better organized, or if a server who had experience with larger groups had been staffed for our party. I was really looking forward to celebrating my bachelorette party here, but instead felt like our group had to spend the whole time either waiting, helping our server figure out where food went, or helping her correct the checks. I appreciated the free appetizers and dessert, but it didn’t really make up for the problems especially since we had to ask for the apps to be taken off the bill.
If you have a large group or important event to celebrate, DO NOT come here. I’ve been coming here for many years with my immediate family (not for larger groups like this experience), but I don’t think I’ll ever be...
Read moreDuring a recent road trip along the Oregon coast, my family and I spent two nights in Newport and decided to try out Georgie's Grill, a place we had heard a lot about.
Georgie's Grill offers a cozy and welcoming atmosphere with stunning ocean views, making it an ideal spot for both casual and special meals. The decor is tasteful, with a coastal theme that adds to the charm of the restaurant.
The service at Georgie's Grill was excellent. The staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, providing helpful recommendations that enhanced our dining experience.
On our first day in Newport, we went to Georgie's for breakfast. I ordered the chicken fried steak, and it was easily one of the best I’ve ever had. The cube steak was clearly pounded out and breaded fresh, seasoned to perfection. It came with toast, two eggs, and hashbrowns, making for a hearty and satisfying meal. Make sure you bring your appetite!
My wife tried the "Coastal Bowl," as recommended by our waitress. It included seafood, peppers, and onions scrambled with three eggs, topped with hollandaise sauce, and served in a sourdough bread bowl. While it sounded delicious, it was unfortunately lacking in flavor.
The following day, we returned for dinner, and it was a fantastic experience. The cocktails were spectacular. We both had the maple old fashioned, which was sweet but not too sweet. My wife enjoyed it so much she had a second one.
For dinner, I had the "catch of the day," which was salmon. It was perfectly cooked and breaded with Dungeness crab and Parmesan, served with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. It was absolutely delicious.
My wife had the sirloin, Oscar style, cooked to a perfect medium-rare and bursting with flavor. She loved it.
The star of the show at Georgie's is the clam chowder. It was hands down the best clam chowder we’ve ever tasted. You can taste every fresh ingredient—clams, potatoes, a creamy broth, and bits of bacon. Absolute perfection.
Georgie's Grill provided an outstanding dining experience with its excellent service, delicious food, and inviting atmosphere. While not every dish hit the mark, the highlights more than made up for it.
If you find yourself in Newport, OR, Georgie's Grill is a must-visit. Whether you're stopping by for breakfast, dinner, or just a bowl of their incredible clam chowder, you won't be...
