Newport Performing Arts Center — Attraction in Newport

This is an amazing venue, with excellent seating, sight lines and acoustics. I was very impressed by the Newport Symphony Orchestra, a truly professional group of musicians. I had no idea that this organization is over four decades old! The performance was phenomenal, magnificent, and IMHO the equal of anything in larger cities like Portland that I have experienced, with a more intimate venue than the large Portland concert hall. I enjoyed the social gathering after the performance, where I met some of the musicians (who come from all over, not just the local community). It's obvious that this venue is a source of pride and comradery for the community. There were some empty seats. I expect those were season tickets that had not been used for this evening. I think it would be beneficial for season ticket holders to allow their seats to either be resold for a given performance, or given to youth in the local high school or other program, when they will not be used...

I was disappointed in our seats. I waited too long to make reservations so I did not have a great choice. I would not recommend the side balcony seats. While we were close to the stage, there were stage lights and speakers and pole to hinder the view of the stage. The seats were folding chairs there as well. There were also chairs in the back corner of the theater which I would avoid. For the next event I want to attend, I will be sure to buy tickets earlier. All other theater seats seemed good. Since it is a smaller venue, there are many good seats. The seating was ridiculous cramped! I give it five stars because in spite of the uncomfortable seating, the show was incredible. We saw Roger's and Hammerstein's Cinderella.

Here's what I would do differently: I'd buy five seats. That way, myself and my friend would be able to sit more comfortably, without anyone being on top of us.

Also, it's a small, intimate venue, well designed, except for the seats, so literally every seat in the house offers you a great view of the stage and good sound.
