This was our first time eating at La Roca in Newport. We are not locals but tourists who were out for a drive and looking for a new spot for lunch. We basically stopped at the first Mexican place we saw. This was the first week of September in 2022. There was a large group of people (12) seated in the center of the room and being served when we walked in so we figured service might be a little slow. We were eventually greeted and sat in a booth by the window. The booth was pretty nice and featured what looked to be hand carved and hand painted wooden accents. The chairs throughout the room were the same way. The décor overall was pleasant. But we waited quite a while just to get menus and the typical complimentary chips and dip that most Mexican restaurants bring out. This is usually where you can tell if it is going to be a good experience. If the chips and dips are good, usually everything else is. But the chips were cold and hard, definitely not fresh or homemade. The dip was pretty terrible. It tasted like they had watered it down then added ketchup. This was the worst chips and dip I've had in almost 60 years which is saying a lot seeing as I spent most of my life in the southwest and I've been to a thousand different Mexican eateries! It took about another ten minutes just to get a waitress to come out and take our order. By this time the large group of patrons was leaving. So it was just my wife and I and 3 other tables of patrons with 2 people at each one; so it was almost empty. These folks already had their food but they had a different waitress so there were at least 2 of them on duty to serve 8 people, so I wouldn't call that understaffed. Our order was pretty basic, nachos and fajitas. It took another 20 minutes for our food to arrive and during this time we never saw either waitress come out. I guess they were busy texting in the back? They definitely weren't doing their job. Looking around the room it was clear she wasn't just ignoring us, everyone else was constantly looking around as if they were trying to figure out where the staff was. The food was average. Not great, not terrible. Instead of hiding in the back the staff should have been cleaning as the whole place was dirty, food and napkins under tables, etc. We won't be going back. We will stick with Mazatlan a few blocks away from now on, which is WAY better food and WAY...

Really good food worst customer service recently. I have been coming to the place over 6+ years with myself and my family. Ever since they have hired this younger female that works here at this establishment it has gone down hill. She is the youngest person that works there and prior with everyone else that has worked here I have never ran into an issue. I called in and made an order to go for a super grande burrito and when I got there I was told that I never called in. I showed them my recent call and showing how long the call was for. The young lady comes around the corner and asked what the problem ? I said I made an order to go. I was seeing if it is ready to pick up ? She said that I never made an order to go over the phone. I said I did but it's fine I can just wait for the order to be cooked while I am here. She than began to talk in Spanish which I know how to speak Spanish. She than began to tell her co workers that I am lying and we are not giving this guy any discounts. I never wanted a discount I just wanted my food. I paid for my food and left. I or my family will not be returning to LA Roca till she is no longer...

Stopped in on a dime.

Garbage, came in here. They didn't even know what Queso is. The chips they gave us were nice. But then I guess they brought out their version of salsa and all it tasted like was ketchup. Green sauce has no flavor except for spicy. Then we ordered our meal and 2 parties of 2 and a party of four got their food before us. We ordered fajitas. They brought me out a skillet full of vegetables with quarter inch by one inch strips of beef on it. Barely enough for the 4 small store bought tortillas they heated up and gave too us. The beef was unseasoned and had no flavor. They gave us each a spoonful of sour cream and guacamole. The only thing that came out good was my child's kids quesadilla. But how hard is it to mess up cheese and a store bought tortilla? Service sucked, waitress didn't come to our table but 1) to drop off water, chips and salsa 2) take order 3)drop off food She NEVER took a drink order. Never came for refills. Didn't come with check. Oh and the bathrooms were clean. I would never...

We found this on a little outing. You know how sometimes you go to a Mexican restaurant and it's...ok.. Just... Ok... THIS is sooooo much better than OK. Nice friendly place, lots of customers (always a great sign!) Quick service, friendly, menu is pretty extensive... Took me a while to choose. In the meantime, let's order a Cozuela... Something different... Wow.. This was so refreshing, i may never order another margarita again, plus it came in a terracotta BOWL! Street tacos, the chicken, pork and carne asada was flavorful and moist... Yes!!! It tasted fresh made, just for you. The right amount of spicy, not too much, you can always add the green salsa... Fire!!! Those radishes were possibly the hottest radishes i have ever had...lol. Go... Just Go. Wonderful experience!!!

Unimpressed. The food was edible, and the service was okay. I was tired, and thought Mexican sounded good, but while the green salsa that came with the chips was tasty, the rest of my meal was relatively bland. I ordered a chicken tostada, which, according to the menu, had sour cream and guacamole, but there was none on the dish. The food did come fast, but the server seemed disappointed that I was dining alone and didn't want anything but water to drink. They never even bothered to bring my check, even though I had my cc sitting on the table. Overall, it was a very mediocre experience. I wouldn't waste my time or money on it again.
