The Mercantile restaurant is located on historic 25th Street in downtown Ogden, Utah. It’s a trendy new place with the best food.
Let’s start with what to order. Get the Reuben sandwich. I didn’t think that I liked rye bread or sauerkraut so I didn’t order it. But after chatting with one of the owners, I decided to try a bite, then another and another. I wanted to eat all of it and the side of pickled red onions and carrots that came with it.
No flavor stands out but it all melds together beautifully. It features a custom cheese from local Beehive Cheese Company. I got the hummus charcuterie board that has cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes and crostini. I loved the balsamic glaze drizzled over the hummus. It was so hard to not eat every bit of the hummus. All delicious!
The toast is an open faced sandwich and I picked the O Town which has cream cheese, raspberry jalapeno jam (more sweet than spicy) and sliced avacado.
It was a little too strong on sweetness and cream cheese for me. I liked it but when I saw the salmon one, I decided I’d get that next time.
We shared a blueberry muffin and it was so good. It has an oat top and was fun to eat. I’m for sure trying more of their pastries. Overall it’s a lighter menu with charcuterie boards, soup, sandwiches, breakfast food, pastries, drinks, coffee and a retail section of gourmet foods.
I feel like you shouldn’t leave without something to take home. That includes some artisan chocolate, cheese or drink.
Lance and his husband, Nick own KAFFE MERCANTILE which have 2 locations locally and an Airbnb. They’ve owned the local chain for over 15 years. And are now partnered with the owners of Roosters Brewing Co., and Beehive Cheese for this new restaurant.
There’s parking behind and you can enter from the back or on 25th Street.
It’s fast casual so you order at the counter then seat yourself and they bring out the food to you. It was fast and friendly. The decor is gorgeous (even the glasses and the restrooms).
They sell and serve Caffe Ibis brand free trade, organic coffee which was started in Logan, Utah, in the 70s.
The Yoders who make the most amazing fresh donuts at the Odgen farmer’s market, make the jams.
Erica of Deelicious catering makes some of the pastries. They sell a lot of carrot cake. Everything looked so good and based on the muffin, I want to try it all.
Many of the recipes come from his or Lance’s family.
I loved the story about how his 80 year old mother comes and makes the turnovers for Kaffe Mercantile. She’s known as the turnover lady. There’s raspberry, other fruit and lemon just in the spring. I’m saying they’re into scratch made food. Foodies from birth!
They serve Roosters beer and have a wine selection. There’s wine flights, where you select 5 wines off the list.
Some selections feature custom Beehive cheese: the grilled cheese, biscuits and gravy, rueben, and rocket toast. The Caesar salad has truffle hive (a speciality cheese).
They’ve been open about 8 weeks. Open until 9pm on weekends (hoping they can extend that but we may not have the nightlife to support it yet).
Same menu all day. It’s quick casual so you order at the counter and they bring it to you. You clear your dishes.
I asked what the crowd was like. He said they get a lot of people who come for work meetings, ladies lunching, and people who come after concerts it events downtown.
I’m already dreaming of a Reuben of my own and a chocolate brownie. And after that, a late breakfast on the weekend. If you're a foodie, you'll love it. If you love a hip vibe with great views and decor,...
Read moreMade a trip up to Ogden, a favorite city to go explore especially the historic 25th Street. I came across this gem in the rough right on the corner of 25th and Grant Avenue. The place is called the mercantile on 25th it's a cheese and deli and pastries and coffee everything a little cafe needs to satisfy your sweet tooth your hunger and your Java fix. I met Erica, she runs the Deelicious pastry section. And the timing couldn't have been better for I was in the mood for some good old-fashioned pastries so I got myself one big giant maple and bacon cinnamon roll a couple of sugar cookies and a ginger scone(The price was very reasonable). Unfortunately I didn't have time to stick around and try the coffee and the cheese and all the other great items they had out but I will be back. I took several photos for your viewing enjoyment. The giant maple bacon cinnamon roll was just what the name says deeeeeelicious, The sugar cookies were spot on sugar cookies tasted like they had a hint of amaretto or almond something It was rather tasty and soft The frosting wasn't heavy ether. The ginger scone I'm going to save till I get home so I can warm it up with my own pot of organic Death Wish Coffee. This is probably going to be better warmed up which the nice person that waited on me ask me if I wanted it warmed up which I politely declined. Once again you Ogden folks are pretty lucky to have these fine eateries up there, I do not give many 5-star ratings, but this place deserved it. Be sure to stop by the mercantile on 25th and tell him Chester sent you I don't know if that'll get you anything but you can tell them I said...
Read moreThe Mercantile Restaurant on the corner of 25th in grant in Ogden City, Utah. The day my son and I went to try the dishes there. It was because of the posted photos of the foods. I ordered The Biscuit and Gravy and my son had The Breakfast Burrito. The taste of my dish, The Biscuit & Gravy was bad, the gravy was way too spicy and salty for my taste, I took one bite and I spat it out, & the drink I had ordered wasn't any better, I will stick with McDonald's & Starbucks for my iced coffee. My son's breakfast burrito wasn't at all good tasting. The food he had ordered tasted more like cardboard with the taste of body sweat in it & he too spat it out, & his drink was no better, it had the taste of dish soap and other smelly odors in the cup & he didn't finish his drink... The Mercantile Restaurant wouldn't be my first second or third choice for eating at due to the food my son & I had, also to those who have an uncomfortable or dislike feelings to the LGBTQ community, this establishment has a small rainbow sticker on the door, I didn't notice it due to a woman placing her purse in front of it. But This Is My Opinion From...
