I am sad to write this review and really hope it is just a fluke. We have loved this restaurant for years and can honestly say it has some of the best Mexican food.

The restaurant was closed last week to do some kitchen renovations, so we were excited to go tonight. We waited an hour and a half for a table, and were so happy to finally sit down when the waiter came out to inform us that since the remodel, there had been some significant menu and policy changes.

First, their amazing and delicious chips and salsa were no longer on the house. What? Unexpected and unfortunate, but OK. So, we requested two chips and salsa orders and when they were brought to our table, we realized they weren’t the amazing big and fresh chips we had come to love. The salsa was the same and so good.

Our waiter then said the menu had changed. Some of our tried and true menu choices were now off the menu. There were more single items, which meant you had to piece your meal together by adding rice and beans to your order. We found that some of our old favorites were still there, such as the flautas, carnitas nortenas, and the fajitas. But our waiter informed us that 4 or 5 of the menu items were no longer available tonight. We have never experienced this where the kitchen ran out of food, and affecting so many different dishes. All of them were my favorites, so I changed my order to Pollo con arrozo, which I enjoyed. The other orders at the table were chicken fajitas, carne asada fajitas, carne asada burrito, and chicken enchiladas. Everyone was ok with their dinner, but the carne asada was quite tough.

We asked the waiter what kind of feedback he was getting with the menu changes and new policies and he said many people had voiced their frustration. He was a great waiter and we appreciated his efforts. I could tell he was trying to make the most out of a tough situation. We waited so long for our dinner, that he slipped us another bowl of chips “on the house.”

As we were eating dinner, we discussed how this may become the new norm? We understand restaurant costs are going up, so cuts have to be made, but is it going to be so severe that customers get so frustrated they go somewhere else? Or not? I get that we have always “paid” for chips and salsa, but this approach comes across as greedy and perception of your brand and product is important.

This place is a favorite of ours and it was a rough night, so we will definitely give Sonora another try, but my heart is breaking a little at the...

Went a few months ago. We ordered a bunch of appetizers that’s were ok. Our mains were all smothered chili verde burritos. They came out smothered in crema which the menu doesn’t state & I know because we can’t eat it due to lactose allergies & I read the menu very closely. My eyes got wide as the waitress approached and she immediately knew something was wrong. She said she could only remake one which I didn’t argue with, my daughter and I tried to scrape our off but it was soaked through like soup. My son can’t eat it at all without becoming very ill so he waited for his to remade & the flavor was off. I am from the same region of Mexico & I was very unhappy with the flavor profile. I did not bother to complain again because they should have remade all the burritos in the first place because the menu description was their error not mine. So we paid, tipped well and left our entire main meal there minus a single bite from each burrito. I have zero clue how this place has so many strars. I can only assume it because we are in Utah & in bountiful & people don’t truly know what good Mexican food is. The flavors not agreeing with me are in thing. The menu oversight with allergy issues & the freshness of the food were the major concerns. Our waitress was nice but she should have got a manger to speak with us about our main issues. The rolled tacos were the only thing worth eating & they came out with crema covering them as well but they were easier to wipe off being they are fried and it won’t sink into the tortilla like a wet paper towel after being fried. I think they use all that crema to hide the flavor and crunchy old rice. Since when does rice goes inside the chili verde burritos? The meat was dry, hard and overcooked. I think Beto’s is better than this place or at least tied for last place but betos is accurately priced & they are willing to fix any errors they make. If you want a great place with quality food try del barrio in Midvale. A little authentic Mexican spot that had the freshest most delicious food. The line is long but it’s worth the wait & I would pay triple...

My wife is from mexico city and as it is Mexican independence day and we are new to ogden, she did some googleing and decided this menu looked the best. Upon arrival I was a little disappointed that they didn't have anything special going on for the holiday and that the decor didn't seem very authentic but my wife assured me that it was something you would see in colonia roma Polanco. She ordered the chiles rellenos and said it was pretty good. I ordered the Carne asada quesadilla. It was rather bland and we both felt that while the portion of food was large, it was VERY light on protien. My quesadilla split in four pieces had 1 or two very small pieces of steak per section. We also ordered the banana chimichanga and fried icecream for desert and neither of us were blown away. Her chimichanga was filled with bananas and a bit of cinnamon and honey. My fried Icecream was served in a large waffle cone filled with whipped cream. There was a single scoop of vanilla icecream with what looked like one large chip of pliable fried corn chip coating the top part of the one small scoop of actual icecream. The staff is friendly and our waitress was very attentive. We got up to leave and forgot our to go box which had over half of my quesadilla and rice and beans in it. We didn't make it across the street before realizing and returning to collect it. No more than 2 miniutes later to be told that the box had been thrown away. As a former waitress myself I know that every resturant I've ever worked at would at least bring the box up front incase of return. But to his credit, when the manager Leon or Liam heard what had happened he immediately went back and had another full order made for us to take home. All in all it is a nice clean and friendly place. It was ok but nothing...

I was up in Ogden about a month ago for work and we decided on this restaurant for lunch. We were able to get in very quickly which was great! As you enter the establishment, the interior is warm and welcoming, but seems a little confused. It feels like they're trying to achieve a modern Mexican influenced upscale restaurant, but there are some industrial elements that seem a bit out of place (especially considering that the ceiling is comprised of completely exposed ductwork). The service was okay! Because of the time of day it was when we went, it was relatively busy so we didn't get the most genuinely interested or engaged interactions with our server, but she was fairly speedy! Regarding the food, I wouldn't suggest what I got if you're looking for authenticity. I ordered the Shrimp Chile Relleno and while a Chile relleno is consistently a favorite dish I enjoy ordering at Mexican restaurants, this was like the distant cousin of a Chile relleno. When I looked up other photos from reviews that had a chile relleno, I very quickly learned that the shrimp chile relleno does not appear to be battered in the same way. The batter around the chile had a flakier texture and crumbled off very easily. Also, the cheese inside was very surprising - it lacked any cheese pull abilities! In fact, it quite possibly seemed to be a cream cheese consistency within which was somewhat off-putting texturally. Overall, the flavor was okay; I would definitely consider it a miss as far as giving you the same flavors as a normal Chile relleno would, and I don't think this was due to any of the flavor influence from the shrimp. Considering the whole experience, it sufficed for a quick work lunch, but pivoted from delivering authenticity with the meal.

I didn’t know what to expect from this restaurant due to reading previous reviews. First of all, our server was great, he was very attentive and courteous. We started with drinks, the Jade margarita was good but was lacking presentation but the pineapple mezcalito look amazing and tasted so good as well, so good that my husband had 3 of them. The sangria margarita had a good combined flavor of tequila and wine but again, I feel like it was lacking a cute presentation like the mezcalito. The chips and guacamole were really good, fresh guacamole! Our entrees were perfect size and amazing flavor. Shrimp chilaquiles? I took the risk and ordered them and they tasted so good! I would 100% recommend it. Bold flavor, lots of seaming and the pickled onions gave them a great touch. We also tried the arroz con pollo, so much chicken and very saucy, the sauce was delicious, very similar to the one used on the chilaquiles. We ended our dinner with the margarita mouse and it was the perfect light dessert. Tasted like a key lime pie mouse with crumbled graham crackers, perfection! They also recommended to get it to go because they serve you more, which it was a good tip but a small, good looking dessert was good. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained. Parking is convenient, you have to walk if there’s no parking in the streets but it is a nice walk. I would definitely recommend this place.
