We dined in. It was our first visit to Condada. I liked the vibe right away. We were seated quicker than expected which is always nice. While we were waiting we went to the bar to get water and the bartender acknowledged me and helped me quickly.
We ordered chips and guacamole as an appetizer. It took an unreasonable amount of time for them to come out. I’d say ten minutes.
The portion of chips was very small. The first thing I noticed when biting into a chip was that they were slightly stale. I also noticed that the chips had an awesome doughy flavor which I loved. Thick and crunchy for sure but the slightly stale effect lingered. Undeniable although the flavor almost made me forgive the staleness. I mentioned it to our waiter and she said that a lot of people think they’re stale but they are made fresh, in house every morning. She brought us more. I can’t say they were any different.
The food arrived in a timely manner. Presentation was poor. Everything was in To-Go containers. Very flimsy, tiny spork. My first bite wasn’t bad because it had a really good flavor. I ordered a rice bowl with black beans, roasted portobello mushrooms with lettuce, tomatoes and queso cheese. Everything was dry, sparse and topped with queso dust. There were no juices from any ingredient so nothing mixed well. Definitely there was a tangy spice on it that gave it an appealing flavor. The only redeeming quality.
Our service wasn’t bad but it wasn’t outstanding. I’m not complaining about that. All the staff was very nice.
My final determination was that I would not return for the food. Possibly for the atmosphere or a drink. Definitely not the food.
If I were to offer a suggestion it would be firstly to offer complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. All of your competitors do, so in my opinion, it isn’t a choice. If you insist on charging for them, be generous with them. That would go a very long way. Secondly, when you get a hankering for Mexican food, I think that one thing people expect is CHEESE. I could barely detect its presence. My date didn’t detect it at all. I had to reassure him that there was any.
Across the street from you is a Chipotle. Their burrito bowl is outstanding. It’s savory, juicy, plentiful and very reasonably priced. If you put one of their bowls next to yours, I think you would understand what I’m trying to imply. You may take away some knowledge after doing it. And their plastic utensils are of...
Read moreMy minion and I on a whim finally tried this spot a month, or so ago. We were near and stopped back in today. By and far my favorite taco/ burrito joint. They serve alcohol, but given my dining partner haven't partaken, but cursory glance plenty of options and reasonably priced. The food though is where they shine for my purpose. I get the Baja shrimp taco. I'm a fat lady and 1 properly fills me, and I give credit to that due to quality of ingredients. My minion had me order her a 2nd taco for dinner tonight. (Forget the name of the one she orders, but she tends to be very healthy minded and a bit picky, so it must be good). I tend to avoid going out, because I am able to cook well, and well dining I feel I always get meh service. Here is the exception and both times I've ate there perfect service from ALL staff. The waitress super friendly and relatable. Who I am assuming was the chef popped out, and asked hey would you like a soft taco instead of the crunchy shell, "The crunchy might get too soggy for you?" Great suggestion and imo the kind of service I wish everywhere I go offered. On the surface simple, but it is considerate and ensures the food will be best possible for later. It is so appreciated. Now I HATE to compare given this place actual quality, great service, and just awesome, but well given technically both places offer tacos. If you have a choice of Taco Bell, or Chipotle just order here. Taco Bell fine drunk, or desperate food, but well it is just that. Chipotle quality has been trash for years now where I don't bother even going there, but ever so often out of stupidity and hope I'll give them a fresh go and end up in a stop if well yup still garbage. Condado equally within similar price range, and actually very delicious. OH and service is insanely fast both times I've ate there. Put in my order, and go wash my hands food on my table literally as I am sitting back down. So a take out order equally as quick I can imagine as either two fast food taco places. Now I just wish they'd put one over here in Northwood, but I am not sure if I'd want that, because I might never make a homemade tamale, taco, or burrito...
Read moreAbsolutely horrible experience on our first, and last, visit to this location.
For starters know going in you're going for massively overpriced hipster tacos. We've eaten the other Toledo location, and meh, but the wife likes it. We figured we'd stop on Friday since we could at least catch happy hour and only pay a ridiculous $6 for margaritas instead of the insane $9+
So we get seated about 5:40, start looking over the menu. Decide on some drinks and are talking with my kid about which crazy priced dips to get (be prepared to pay even for chips and salsa). As we're deciding between 2 $6 dips or going all in for the $15 trio my wife comments that it's crazy nobody has stopped over. She's right, of course, as by this time it is 5:51.
Finally we've decided what we're ordering and still nobody to be seen for service and the wife (who chose the place and likes it) comments that that other table was getting their food and they were seated right after us...huh
Last straw. Table right next to us gets seated at 5:59 a and a waitress hurries over making sure to let them know they had exactly 1 minute to order drinks to still get happy hour prices.
We were done. Told the hostesses we had sat there for 20 mins and nobody even said hello. Know going in you're going to drop a fortune here (assuming anybody ever waits on you). I assume the food is similar to the other location so it'll probably taste fine. It bears no resemblance to actual Mexican food and costs double. Throw in the worst service experience I've ever had at a restaurant and hopefully they'll go under quickly and be replaced with...
