I came to spend time with my two living children. And this evening, our tickets included all-you-can-eat. Hamburgers and hotdogs with all the regular vegetables and condiments. Sodas and or bottled water. Our Church, which is Calvary Baptist Church located at 24601 North Western Ave, Edmond Oklahoma was contacted concerning tickets for tonight's game. The_v Church purchased the tickets and then shared them with the members interested in attending. The company and the fellowship with friends and family was great in the end after both teams played a good game. This evening is called Jurassic Park Night. At the entrance, when I arrived, someone was wearing a Dinosaur costume. My only negative comment is that in section 203 Row F. From my seat, the cable that the backstop net is suspended from blocked part of the score board. Otherwise, this section has great views. I have been here in the past with family. My late wife and oldest son were the sports fans of the family. Randall was born with an advanced adult form of Myotonic Dystrophy a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy. He played every position on the field, sitting in his wheelchair. He was so much fun to watch and spend time with at a ball game. My wife's family are so much into sports. At family gatherings, they sat around talking about every sport and who was who in every sport, all the way back in the beginning of sports time.
As for me, I was born in the Show Me State and raised in South America, and sports wasn't a high priority in our family. My Dad was very very good when it came to playing Baseball. It was his favorite sport. But his 1st love and commitment was to the ministry that God called him to do.
I will say this about my dad. He was born and raised on a wheat farm near Kiowa. Colorado. He was no wimp. Yet he was a very quiet and humble man. When he organized youth activities, if softball or baseball was on the schedule. All 6 attending and participating in the game. They would nearly split their families over whose team he would play on. He always kept track and made sure he was never on the same team twice in a row. He never used a glove in the outfield and he caught fly balls bare handed. Because it never failed someone else needed a baseball mit. So he let them use his. When they asked him if it hurts, he responded it stings a little. But it's not that bad. When he was at Bat, the outfield moved way back. Because typically, given the chance, he was always a home run hitter. And the Venezuelan people loved him not just because he was a great ball player. He sacrificed many luxuries and comforts so they could come to know Jesus Christ as their Saviour.
In the 1970's, when I lived in Caracas, Venezuela. Some of my friends were convinced that Baseball was invented in Venezuela by a Venezuelan. Because baseball is their national sport. 😂🤣😂
As for the game tonight, in the top of the 6th, OKC seams to be falling apart. Bad throws between bases and the pitcher just cost them stolen bases and 1 run. Not what I came to see tonight. But unfortunately, mistakes do happen. Well entering into the bottom of the 5th. Hopefully, OKC will make the rain that's falling a tool to make them win.
As for parking around the ballpark. Never fear there's plenty of parking in the Bass Pro parking lot across the street and there's another 5 acre parking lot across from that. So throughout Bricktown close to ballpark you will find plenty of parking. Some costs to park. Ranging around $10 and up. While if you don't mind walking 1/4 mile it's free.
Concession stands are clean and well staffed. I waited less than 3 minutes to get to the counter to inquire where I could find the free buffet. 😁.
Elevator didn't take forever to arrive on my floor so I could get up to the 2nd floor.
The restroom I visited was out of paper towels and the front cover of the dispenser was missing. Otherwise the restroom was very clean. A clean public restroom isn't always easy to find especially in such a large facility with so many people using it...
Read moreI had an event for my company and brought my service dog with me for my sense of security. I was turned away, with an employee claiming that in their rules and regulations any service dog must wear an indicator (vest or harness). However upon reviewing their rules and regulations, something I was not able to pull up at that time, it does not state that any service dog must have an indicator. My sister and I had our reserved tickets in hand along with my ID. The employee did not apologize nor give me any other reason as to why my service dog was not allowed in the facility. If he were to have been worried if my dog was just a pet or anything he could have asked me to perform some of the things he was trained to do, in which I would have gladly performed for him. However not only does the ADA state that an indicator is not required it also states the business is only allowed to ask if he is a service dog and what actions he is trained to perform. Neither question was asked. I emailed the Customer Service Manager and the General Manager to which I have not heard anything. I will never be going to the Ballpark again for any reason unless the situation has...
Read moreI've been to a lot of minor league games. This was good, but not great. Most minor league games have tons of stuff for the fans. They tossed about 3 t-shirts to our side of the stadium, and frankly not much else. Prices at concessions we're just ok - a little higher than I am used too at a minor league game. I spend just a little more at Minute Maid park and the Astros won the world series last year.
Otherwise, its a nice park. We got our tickets through StubHub, but could not scan them at the gate, so I had to go to will call. Then they gave me tickets for the next night by accident. I should be able to buy, print, and scan at the gate, but even it I do have to go to will call, how do you end up with tickets for another game?
Leaving after the game was ok. Seems to be located in a section of downtown where there is a lot of nightlife, so driving is not too easy, but at least when you get out of the immediate area we could get on a highway to anywhere.
Overall, good, but...
