I have often said that a great hotel is defined by the family of team members that make your experience wonderful... or awful. Such is the case at this hotel.||I checked in the evening before last and waited behind 2 other guests at the Front Desk for a couple of minutes. There was no one at the Desk. The lady in front of me stated 'This is getting ridiculous". "Where is the front desk person?". She had been waiting a few minutes, as was the man in front of her. I waited a few more minutes and noticed people heading down the hall and gathering outside a room. Some were walking out with boxes. Hmmm... I decided to venture that way and asked the person distributing boxes if she worked for the hotel. "YES," she replied. I asked if she could call someone to the Front Desk.||Apparently, that was NOT something I was supposed to do. :) She stated 'IT'S ME', and then stormed up to the desk. Upon my turn to get a 'key', she mumbled that she was helping OTHER guests get their packages. OK? When I approached her, she was finished and 'organizing' packages. No other guests were present looking for packages. ||She never looked me in the eye. She was RUDE, with a touch of unnecessary arrogance. The worst 'check-in' experience in years, and she has NO business in this job. When asked about parking, she told me one thing...and then changed completely when I returned. ||Normally, I couldn't care less...but she NEVER welcomed me. She never acknowledged my Globalist Status (other than writing GLOBAL on my envelope... no idea what that meant). No water bottles, no inquiry about checkout time, NOTHING. I was shoved a key. The best word to describe her shouldn't be used in this text.||Later, I came down and picked up two waters, showing her my room key. She grunted.||This made me look at other things, and the hotel is NOT that great. Housekeeping is lacking. The front door mat was FILTHY. Breakfast area tables were not cleaned from the bar crowd the night before. Two tables were sticky, cleared, but not cleaned. Corners upstairs were dirty....I could go on and on, and have photos beyond the one of the entry mat, should anyone try to deny. ||The Breakfast itself was NOT up to typical Hyatt Place Standards. Parking procedures are a bit confusing. ||Worst CHECK IN ever. Very average hotel experience.||You can let the Gal at the front desk know...she won! I won't be back. Just booked the AC next door for my return trip...
Read moreI’m gonna start with complimenting Akeela at the front desk. She was very professional, patient and kind. Next are the things I didn’t like: 1) I dont like that they have zero secured self parking. You MUST valet or park on the street. That lot is big enough to accommodate self parking as well as reserve spots for valet 2) the morning valet guys hands at 8am were FILTHY DIRTY like he was working on cars last night and never washed his nasty hands. Disgusting when he handed me my keys. I had to wipe down my car before pulling off. 3) I came from the elevator way, not from the front door way to enter breakfast area. It was apparent that I didn’t walk in from off of the street. There was a guy standing there at a podium like it was a “by reservation” restaurant. At first he just looked at me. Wasn’t even opening his mouth to say good morning at 8am until I first said good morning. Then he picked up a pen and looked down at some black book and asked for my room number before entering the breakfast area. I couldn’t remember off hand because I’m staying at a new hotel every single day this week as I drive across the country. I had to dig into my pocket for the card and he made a face while lifting his eyebrows as if he was judging and thinking “are you even a guest here.” It made me very uncomfortable. I didn’t like it one bit. I felt targeted. It was the dumbest thing I’ve encountered at a Hyatt. I have only ever been asked for my room number before eating while at the Hyatt Regency in St. Louis at Arch while Globalist status, enjoying free breakfast at the ACTUAL RESTAURANT there. They don’t have a free buffet but Globalists do eat free at the ACTUAL RESTAURANT so they need your room number to verify your status or simply charge the NOT FREE food to your room. I understand needing my room number in that instance, but HERE, at a free buffet? Absolutely NOT! Do you guys have an issue with homeless there or random people walking in for free food? Certainly didn’t look like the type of area for either of those things. Had I not said good morning to this guy, he was totally ignoring me 100%. I think this shouldn’t be a thing staff is doing here without a damn good reason as to why it’s necessary. Its...
Read moreI had high expectations for this Hyatt, but unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing hotel stays I’ve had. From the moment we arrived, the hotel felt gross—not necessarily in an obvious way, but in a way where everything just seemed unclean and poorly maintained. The elevators were dirty, the buttons didn’t light up when pressed, and both elevators had issues. The room initially looked clean, but upon closer inspection, it was clear that it hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned. It felt rundown despite appearing relatively new, which was a strange contrast.
One of the biggest surprises was that they charged for breakfast—something I’ve never encountered at a Hyatt before. To make it worse, it was the same basic breakfast offered at other Hyatt locations, except without a waffle maker, which is a staple at every other Hyatt I’ve stayed at, even the more budget-friendly ones. The quality of the food was terrible, so bad that we didn’t even bother going back for a second day.
Another major issue was the air conditioning in our room, which made loud, strange noises throughout the night. It made sleeping uncomfortable and was just another indication that maintenance at this hotel is lacking.
I’ve stayed at multiple downtown Hyatt locations before, and they’ve always had exceptional service—whether it was a warm welcome, a complimentary bottle of water, or small gestures like offering hot chocolate. Even at the standard Hyatt properties, the staff has gone out of their way to make the experience feel special. That was completely missing here. The staff was polite, but nothing about their service felt above and beyond.
The only positive experience was the valet service, which, ironically, isn’t even run by Hyatt—it’s a third-party service. I chose valet parking because the self-parking situation was confusing, and with the bad weather, it was the best decision. The valet team was friendly, efficient, and honestly provided the best service we received during our stay.
Overall, this hotel fell short in so many ways—cleanliness, maintenance, service, and amenities. I wouldn’t stay here again and definitely wouldn’t recommend it, especially when other downtown Hyatt locations offer a far...
