Bricktown Ballpark
Looks like the Bricktown Ballpark doesn't need yet another 5-star review from me, but we had a great experience there last night and wanted to leave feedback. We had great seats on the third-base side, meaning the sun was behind us and we were in the shade, and the weather was perfect. My parents, my brother and our families went, and we had a great time.
The Blue Crew people do a good job of keeping people entertained between innings, and we had a great time. The game was great; a homer, a pickoff at second, a couple of rundowns, and a play at the plate. Dodgers won, so that didn't hurt.
The food selection is actually pretty good and only a little bit overpriced, not too bad. Something happened where a couple of my burgers took a very long time to make. The concessions guys were nice, but what I didn't realize was that there was some sort of ballpark manager/hospitality staff guy nearby. He ordered after me but got his food first, and he hung around. I didn't know why he was there, but he stayed around, and after I got my food finally and was walking back to my seat, he caught up with me and gave a really friendly and courteous apology for the delay and gave me a handful of Dodger Dollars that more than repaid me for my order. So that was an excellent experience on top of everything else.
On Sundays kids can run the bases after the game (the line, which starts in Section 115, is really long though). There are also some carnival-style games and a playground in deep right field. One of the mascots seems to hang out behind the third base dugout during most of the game, so if you want to bring your kid to see him like we did, those are good seats to have.
Parking over by Bass Pro is $10; not too bad. Traffic wasn't bad at all coming in or going out. Definitely recommend going at least once or twice per summer, it's a great park, they run the entertainment well, the food is pretty good, and ... it's...
Read moreBeautiful Ballpark. The attendants are very friendly, helpful, and courteous. But things were not without problems. The main concession stand ran out of chips for the nachos, they waited until I paid for my order of 3 drinks, 2 hot dogs, 1 cheeseburger w/ fries, 1 bag of peanuts, and a bag of Cracker Jacks to tell me and my 9yr old grandson that they were out of carrying trays. We managed to get it all back to the terrace. The elevator was out of service and I am suffering from a knee injury, so walking the steps to the terrace was excruciating. Other people had bought these foot-long hot dogs but they ran out of long buns, so their dogs looked silly hanging out of those tiny buns. Speaking of dogs, it just happened to be Bark in the Park night at the ole ball game. Some k-9s were well-behaved, while others barked the whole time, and two dogs got into a vicious brawl. It didn't take an animal behavioral science Dr to figure that was an inevitable occurrence. It was entertaining though and distracted from the terrible game the Dodgers were losing. $10 for parking, $195 for three seats, $70 at the team store, and $63 for food (My tickets were advertised as all-you-can-eat seats). But my grandson had a blast and now loves baseball, so it was worth every penny. Did I mention it was a...
Read moreThis place is a tomb that offers few amenities. Having lived in two cities with AA baseball (Amarillo and Tulsa), I was used to exciting atmospheres and a variety of food and drinks. It would seem that AAA baseball would be even a better experience.
Unfortunately, that is not the case here. Walking inside this mausoleum, my first notice was that the upper left field section is blocked off by huge advertising signs. With the outfield encased in walls, it almost seemed claustrophobic. I liked the attempt to excite fans with electronic messages and pictures regarding the new Comets logo, but the 300 in attendance (including me) remained bored. The actual game did not help, as the Comets lost to the last place team in an embarrassing fashion (12-4).
We tried to explore the food and drink scene, but that endeavor was no better than watching the game. Honestly, I have seen better options at college games. It was just so sad.
If I was affiliated with the LA Dodgers, I would honestly find another city to host a Triple A team. The dreadful attendance and atmosphere at Chickasaw will eventually bankrupt...
