I never leave negative reviews but this deserves one. Went with my grandchidren (one who is on Spectrum (6) and brother (8)) so I very purposely made reservation right at 5pm to avoid waiting in line (melt downs). They opened at 5pm not a minute before and it took over 1/2 hour to be seated while waiting/standing in hot sun. Then they didn’t accept the Universal confirmation number for my prepaid meals even though they could see me in the system because they needed a certain code that was only sent to my travel agent. I waited for over 20 minutes in front of everyone (almost in middle of room) while they called the office to get the number they needed to check me in — all while passively aggressively berating me in plain view of the other diners. As you can imagine, the kids were hot, frustrated, and bored and my special needs child started touching a set of silverware at an empty table near where he was standing with us while I was trying to sort out the reservation with the manager - and he proceeded to tell me loud enough for the other diners to hear me to control my special needs child because he was touching the sanitized fork. I was doing the best I could while trying to straighten it out while left standing in the middle of the other diners — you would think they would at least offer the children someplace to sit while we worked through it. No empathy at all! We were finally seated and then ate (food was tolerable but nothing more). Long after we finished our meal and had been there at least an hour since we were seated… it became abundantly clear that the characters went to all table around us - even when they were seated at least 40 mins after us - skipping our table. I finally went to ask the person who was in charge of directing the characters if there was something we needed to do to have the characters come by because they skipped our table and was told ‘they’ll get to you eventually’. So then after a 90 minute wait (this isn’t a large place) .. long after we were done eating and the children were upset and bored silly, they finally got to meet Spider-Man (their favorite superhero— (each wearing their spider hats 🥹)). The character actors were the only saving grace. They were just wonderful to the children and I really appreciated their kindness. As for the rest of the meal and the horrible treatment by staff, I would strongly recommend against going to Cafe 4 at Universal Orlando — especially if you have a special...
Read moreIt was one of the best experiences I have been part of in a long time. The characters Spiderman and Captain America were so inviting, invested, and amazing in making me feel and my family with a feeling of what I can only describe as incredible and immersive. The photographer, "Carlos," made my kids believe he was part of the "Daily Bugle" and had such an incredible interaction with my grandson and my family. Captain America introduced himself as a Brooklyn native and Spider-Man as a Queens native and Carlos from the daily bugle bugle from Manhattan once we told them we were from New York City. My cousin is an inspiring photographer, and Carlos gave her a pin of a small camera and told my cousin she was now part of the Daily Bugle, and that made her entire year. This trio was entertaining, awesome actors, and made the entire family feel special. Thank you to all three of you for making it the best day ever. Thank you to the entire staff and the other characters as well, "Wolverine, Storm, and Rogue." The servers were on point, and the food was a buffet of everything, but what makes this a special place is the interaction you will not find in any other theme park as remarkable as this one. Carlos, the photographer, was very careful in taking very careful candid pictures when Spider-Man and Captain America were at our table and when they were posing in the designated picture area with them both. We asked for extra Christmas pictures with Spider-Man and Captain America, and without any hesitation, they all three made it happen with different poses and 1st class interactions every single time. Thank you, and I highly recommend this memorable special place to everyone who is planning to visit the Islands of Adventure theme park in...
Read moreI work in food service, so I generally give the benefit of the doubt when things go wrong at places like this, but this was the most inexcusably bad service and food I've had at any theme park ever. First, the ordering system is extremely confusing. The mobile order didn't have all of the items on the menu so we had to place our order at the register; after waiting about 15 minutes the employees bring us the food. The whole time we were sitting there, multiple people kept walking up to the buffet style area to pick up food and had to be turned away because that's not how you order. In addition, the person working at the register chose what fruit bowls we got. The menu just says "fruit bowl" and there are apparently watermelon and pineapple bowls. She arbitrarily chose 1 watermelon and 2 pineapple bowls without ever asking which ones we wanted (we didn't even know there were multiple options). The fruit bowls then did not even show up on our first tray and we had to ask a second time to get those.
As you can see from the pictures, the food was laughably bad. I don't know how any food service employee could put that breadstick on a plate and think to themselves "this is acceptable to serve." The bread was as hard as a rock and looked like it had been run through a meat grinder before making it to my plate. Honestly impressed that the lady dropping off our food was able to do so with a straight face. As you can see in the second photo, some of the pineapple was also rotten. The pasta was fine I guess, but the whole time I was eating I was just thinking about how I'd probably be fired at my job if I ever served food that looked...
