I rarely write negative reviews, but the experience my family and I had at Made in Puerto Rico on Motherâs Day was so horrendous, I feel itâs important to share.
We had reservations for a table of 10 at 1:00 pm, and we had made the required deposit when booking. We arrived on time, only to be told weâd have to wait 30 minutes to sit down. Why? Because we had to choose on the spot between two preset prefix menus or else we wouldnât be allowed to sit. This crucial detail wasnât communicated to us when we called to make the reservation, nor was it mentioned on their website or social media. As a business, itâs essential to communicate any changes, especially for a special occasion like Motherâs Day.
After some back-and-forth, they allowed us to order from the regular menu, and eventually, we were seated. We placed our appetizer orders, but then, when it came time to order our main courses, we waited about 15 minutes on our own before ordering. There was no rush from the server, and we were ready to move on with our meal, but the delay was unnecessary. Once the food started to come out, it was clear the service was incredibly slow, but at least our table was being servedâsort of. Water refills, however, were another issue. Apparently, this establishment has a bizarre policy where only waiters in blue aprons refill water, not the ones in red aprons. This is a completely nonsensical system that I've never encountered at any other restaurant.
We repeatedly asked about the three meals that hadn't arrived yet, and we were told they were "almost out." Fast forward four hours... FOUR HOURS! Still, no food had been served. Finally, after all that frustration, the food arrived. But the nightmare didnât end there. When it was time to settle the bill, we discovered that the waiter had made multiple errors. He charged me for the prefix menu meals I hadnât ordered and didn't even touch.
When I spoke to the manager, I expressed that this was the worst dining experience Iâve ever had. Waiting four hours for food and still being charged incorrectly is just absurd and inconsiderate. Not only did the manager refuse to take the incorrect charges off the bill, but he also tried to charge me more for the same plate. To make matters worse, his "solution" was to have another employee act like they were giving me a discount, which didnât happen at all.
As someone who has worked in the industry and knows many well-known chefs and restaurant owners, I can confidently say that Iâve never seen such poor customer service. A manager shouldâve stepped up, apologized, and taken care of the situation to make up for the awful experienceânot act dismissively and put blame elsewhere. The staff also seemed completely untrained, and later we learned that our waiter was new. Itâs a poor judgment call to schedule a new server on the busiest day of the year.
A successful restaurantâlike Capital Grilleâensures that customers feel valued, especially during holidays. This was not the case here. Itâs heartbreaking that this experience ruined Motherâs Day for the three mothers in our group. I drove over 2 hours to dine here, only to be treated like my time and money didnât matter.
I will never return, and I strongly advise others to stay away. There are plenty of great restaurants out there that actually care about their customers. I will be sharing this experience with my fellow chefs and restaurateurs and making sure they never recommend this place to anyone.
Avoid this small business and...

I had one of the worst dining experiences at Made in Puerto Rico in Orlando. From the moment I walked in, the service was terrible. The host just stared at me and my partyâno greeting, no introduction, no âHey, how are you?â or âWhere would you like to sit?â Just a blank stare. When she finally acknowledged us, she was rude and dismissive. I asked if I could sit outside, and instead of properly seating me, she just handed me a menu and said, âYeah, go ahead and walk out there.â
I sat outside for 20 minutes without a single server coming by. No one acknowledged me, no one took my order. I finally had to go back inside to ask about it, only to be rudely told that I had to order at the bar. That would have been nice to know before I sat outside waiting for nothing.
The bartender wasnât any betterâshe was just as rude and dismissive. I struggled to get my order in, and honestly, after spending $125, I felt like I shouldnât have tipped anyone. But despite the terrible service, I still tipped the bartenderâthough I really didnât want to.
Overall, this was a horrible experience. If youâre looking for good service, I do not recommend this place at all.    Read moreI give it a zero star if I could!! This is a "Tourist Puerto Rican Restaurant" absolutely nothing authentic! The place is over rated, over hyped, over booked and over PRICED! $15 for 3 small oiled filled bacalaitos. All they did was throw a few Puerto Rican flags around and play Marc Anthony most of the time. We made a reservation for a birthday party. They did ask for a $100 deposit, that will go towards the bill, but you will loose of you cancel or don't show up. This establishment was such a disappointment!! Family flew in from all walks of life for this moment and it all went to crap, putting it lighly!! When we arrived to check in early, as we're walking towards the table the hostess proceeds to tell us we only have a 2 hours window for our party of 11! A 2 hour window is doable. But this is where it went wrong. 10 minutes go by and a waiter came over and tells us that our waiter is running late that he's just pulling into the parking lot. Finally around 6:20 our waiter came and we put our drinks in. It's past 7pm and we still haven't put our dinner order in. We skipped appetizers because we wanted to be courteous.and not go over the 2 hour time frame they gave us that we were not aware of. I wish I had known that!, but I did order a $15 bacalaito. The bacalaitos were so small you can make 1! The waiter was so busy we needed drinks again and no waiter. Finally some food starts to come out and every plate they brought to our table was not ours. Every one of us except me, got our food at different times. The birthday girl finally got her dinner at 7:45!! We still don't have drinks, we still haven't finished eating, we still haven't seen dessert menus, I still havent received my food and we still don't even have the birthday cake out and the hostess/maybe manager had the audacity to come over to our table and ask us if she can close out our table and that we were being moved to the bar! We have a minor with us, minors cannot sit at bars! The way she approached us about this situation, is when I lost my cool!! As far as the food it was terrible!! 80% of our food stayed on the plate. Again it was not authentic but to someone who's not from the island, they wouldn't know the difference. Dont eat here if you have high blood pressure. The food was extremely salty, extremely oily, too much Adobo and too much Sofrito. What a disappointment this...
