Honestly I thought I’d found a nice little hidden gem for sushi. Turns out the owner is extremely rude and apparently doesn’t appreciate repeat customers.
Last week I discovered a sushi restaurant about 15 mins from my place that was offering all you can eat for like $28. They also had a $5 off $30 coupon on their website. I went there and enjoyed sushi and the coupon covered the cost of my soda and the tax on the purchase. So it was a pretty good value. I went again this last Friday and did the same thing again and then decided I was craving it again so went again tonight, my third time in a week’s span.
This time when I enter there was a tall female at the front seating folks. She seats me doesn’t really say anything, whatever. I enjoy my meal, my server is great, and I ask for the check. Again I pull out the coupon and go to pay. This time the server after trying to get my check discounted says that apparently the owner (tall lady up front) has told her I can’t use the coupon with my purchase. I think ok that’s weird I just came two other times this week and there was no problem. I mention that to my server who’s just playing telephone between me and the owner at this point. The owner ends up storming over and just immediately says I can’t use it, but she’ll allow me this time. Ok, I mean that’s fine your coupon, your restaurant, your rules. I normally wouldn’t care it’s not like it’s a huge sum either it’s literally $5 (which covered my $3 sofa and $2 in tax) on the $33 check.
What irks me is when I politely try to explain that I came two other times this week, she immediately cuts me off and says that the servers don’t know anything and it’s their fault. Kind of talking down about her own staff. She’s just super rude and clearly unappreciative of the fact that I’ve dropped $100 by myself there this week. Just to be clear, I don’t even care about the coupon this has more to do with customer service.
If she had politely explained that the staff had made an error and normally you don’t allow it to be used in conjunction with your all you can eat menu that would have been the end of it for me. Instead I’m being talked down to by the owner of the establishment, who’s also speaking poorly of her hard working staff. I was honestly dumbfounded by the interaction. She then runs my card and proceeds to in front of me hand write some notice on a piece of paper and tape it onto the sushi bar saying NO COUPONS ON ALL YOU CAN EAT or something to that effect. in full view of where I’m sitting, just so passive aggressively rude.
As I leave I try to clear the air by saying I’ve really enjoyed her restaurant and the food and service l is great. She just brushes me off and says “mmhmm”. Like seriously if you can’t be polite or nice to people you have no business being in the service industry. You’re not the only sushi restaurant in town. I’m happy to take my business elsewhere. Pretty sad customer service overall, I liked the servers and staff but I can’t in good conscience support a business that is ultimately owned by someone like that. If being nice is hard for you and you own a restaurant, I would recommend that you stay at home and hire a manager who knows how to interact with and treat your customers.

Read moreMy partner and I recently visited this restaurant for the all-you-can-eat special. It was our first time, and we had some questions for the host. We mentioned that we were unfamiliar with the place and asked if there were any restrictions on how much we could order. The host informed us there was no limit, but that we would have a two-hour time frame to stay. However, what we weren’t informed of was that the restaurant was closing at 9 p.m., and we only had until 8:30 to place any additional orders. This was not communicated to us until after our first round of food arrived around 8:15, which left us very confused and disappointed.
When I spoke up about the unfairness of charging us $34 each for the all-you-can-eat special when we were only allowed two rounds of food, the "manager" seemed dismissive and claimed she assumed we knew about the time restriction. She was unresponsive to our concerns, and it became clear she didn’t consider how frustrating this was for us. She also mentioned that we could pay for the items individually, but this would have come to nearly $60, which we felt was not worth it for the limited amount of food we received.
After some back-and-forth, the best the manager could offer was a 10% discount. Throughout the encounter, she was on the phone with an AirPod in her ear, which further contributed to her lack of attentiveness. On the other hand, our waitress was kind, apologetic, and understood our frustration, agreeing that the manager should have communicated the time limit properly.
In the end, we were offered to pay for just one all-you-can-eat meal, which was a fair resolution, but the overall experience left us dissatisfied. The food itself was mediocre and didn’t live up to expectations, and we won’t be returning. Unfortunately, due to the poor customer service and lack of clear communication, we cannot recommend...
Read moremy friend and i absolutely love going to all you can eat sushi restaurants, and after moving, were pleased to find this one located a mere three minutes from my house. we are frequent visitors of sushi yama near international drive, and wanted to try this place out to see if we could save ourselves the trip. needless to say, it was disappointing. we found our entire conversation at dinner was just us trying to find something- anything- we liked about it. the appetizers were disgusting and might as well have come out of a frozen bag at the grocery store. the sushi was warm and just off in taste, and i think we can all agree that if anything sushi is not something you want to taste off. one thing i specifically noticed was strange sauces being on top of otherwise good sounding sushi rolls. for example, one of my rolls had chili pepper sauce on top despite not being advertised that way, which led me to not want it. the worst part was when we decided to ask for a comp, which is something i absolutely NEVER do. it just got to the point where we were so disgusted even looking at the sushi was making us sick. we explained our situation and simply asked if we could pay for just one of the all you can eat meals instead of both. we felt that was a fair deal given we had eaten a little before deciding we were done. instead, they insisted we switch our meal type from all you can eat to regular, and pay à la carte for what we had eaten, which was MUCH more than what it would have been with all you can eat. this was an absolutely ridiculous compromise, given we had no way to know this would be the outcome before ordering and trying the food, and would have never ordered all you can eat style at regular prices. not to mention the vibe was completely off inside, and the staff was too. needless to say we will be sticking to sushi yama, and...
