El Agave Mexican Bar & Grill - Oxford — Restaurant in Oxford

The food was pretty decent however the service was pretty terrible. We had a party of 7 and they neglected to bring out one plate - nor did they apologize or give an explanation as to why it came out about ten minutes after the rest of our party's food. Then when they finally brought out the order, it had the wrong sides. If I'm visiting in Oxford again, or even lived here, I would find a different Mexican food restaurant to go to. Update: the table behind us ordered the same thing that showed up 10 minutes late to our table and their whole party received everything at once. Another update: the WORST customer service. Our first server left however didn't think it was appropriate to let us know he was leaving/transferring our table...we found out from the new server that he had left. What in the world is going on here.... if I could leave no stars, I would. The manager came out to comp the meal and gave us an excuse for the waiter rather than starting with an apology. Honestly, there's no excuse as to why 6/7 orders came out and one came out almost 10-15 minutes later, when the rest of us were practically done eating. We come to this location and the one in Southaven all the time… today was a disaster in the Oxford, MS location. We waited 15 minutes to be seated…we were skipped twice…then we waited for a server for at least 10 minutes. When the server finally got there I told him we had been waiting a long time and were ready to leave. He got a serious attitude with me when I told him we were ready to leave. It was a little busy but not so busy that we should have been waiting that long. We left because I never eat anywhere when a server has an attitude. I guess our business wasn’t wanted. We seriously come here or the Southaven location all the time. Today was ridiculous. It’s ok because there are plenty of places to eat in Oxford we don’t have to eat here anymore. I thought places were grateful to be busy and even more grateful to have regulars who frequent their establishments… we are definitely living in different times. We went to Costa’s and got good food and service. We will come here...

COVID era review. Staff masked except for one person. Limited seating capacity.

This is a beautiful restaurant. Vivid colors abound throughout the restaurant, and each booth is elegantly carved with the restaurant name. With three of us dining, we ordered a large cheese dip for the complimentary tortilla chips. It was gigantic, and we couldn't finish it all. The chips and salsa were brought to the table in a deep basket mounded high with crispy chips. The last that brought them over was the only person not masked. The taco had a large portion of meat, with plenty of cheese and lettuce. The chicken enchilada was tangy with moist chicken. The refried beans were dense with pieces of pinto beans. The arroz was a tad bit dry but flavorful. Drinks cane in extra large glasses.

They have a full bar with an emphasis, obviously, on tequilas.
