I love what SteakNShake used to be. I do think, however, this was my last time to dine in one. My daughter and I cherish our memories of sitting up at the counter in our town of residence and exchange smiles and stories with the efficient and extremely kind and funny waitress.
I know that Covid required some shifting to stay in business, but St&Sh went too far by totally replacing the wait staff with kiosks. My husband was so frustrated trying to find in the kiosk menu a sandwich that did not have cheese…. All but the smallest one had cheese in its listed name… so he sacrificed and clicked on the smallest burger and was “less than pleased”, shall we say, when his burger came with cheese… there was probably an option for no cheese somewhere in the system, but it should not have been needed for the one non-cheeseburger type of burger.
If they insist on using kiosks, they really must have newbies do their test drive evaluations. If we would have commented to the manager while we were there, would hubby have probably received what he thought he ordered or what he wanted?.. likely… but the shortage of time didn’t allow this and really should not have been needed.
In the meantime, many tables needed to be cleaned but did not seem to be assigned to their crew. Of course I do not know if they had some workers not show up today… I assumed they were not scheduled. We already saw the evidence that their priority was paying for kiosks not employees.
Good news is the toilet ball and chain i reported as needing replacement the last time we were in town was indeed replaced… but now it needs the chain adjusted and this time I did not take time to report it because of time and the thought that surely I am not the only one who notices their toilets don’t flush properly.
Credit where it is due… the shoe string fries were perfectly crisped. And the fry cook took time to turn to us when he heard my husband frustrated that he couldn’t find ketchup as an option in same kiosk order… but because cook had a headset on (I assume to hear drive through orders) it took several tries to have him understand we wanted ketchup not whatever else was stuck in cook’s hearing.
Yes, patience is good in all phases of life, but I also sense a trend of minimal service and I would rather spend my money where service and care is a...
Read moreThis is about the drive thru service. We have went in many times and did the kiosk ordering and never had any issues. However, upon going through the drive through we have had a horrible experience not once but TWICE. The staff was rude and hateful. The order was wrong.. both times. This last time the worker Beverly... couldn't do math. $3.99 times two does not equal $11 something. When she was questioned about that she said well you have to pay taxes. Umm yeah but taxes aren't that much on that amount!! So then she looked and said oh I put in another burger and then continued to blame it on my husband saying he didn't know how to order so she proceeded to tell him how to place a order!! No.. the problem was she wasn't listening. She was giggling and flirting with whoever was working with her and NOT paying attention to the customer. Even when she was asked to repeat the order back she did NOT. That right there would have saved a lot of aggravation. Finally when the order was checked before we left it was wrong. My husband ordered a PLAIN hamburger. He went back around and told her the order was wrong and she AGAIN proceeded to tell him he ordered it wrong and it wasn't her fault. Now how does one get that wrong? Plain means plain. Just saying. THEN some young guy came to the window and started in mouthing as well. Now normally nothing would be said and we would just not go back and keep our mouths shut but this has been TWICE that the drive thru service has sucked. We won't be back. They hardly ever have anyone there anymore and I can see why. They have a huge issue with the workers they have. They need to learn that arguing with the customer is not ok and they need to learn how to pay attention to their job and repeat back orders like...
Read moreWhile traveling through Paducah on Christmas Day, we pull off at exit 4 for some gas and a nibble. My youngest son loves the mini corn dogs at Steak 'n Shake, so we go there, not that we had many choices considering that Paducah seems to shut down on Christmas. We park and go in. They are busy. We are 3rd in line to be seated. We wait 20 minutes to be seated. My youngest son and I head to the bathroom, they are in need of attention. We go back out to sit and wait for our order to be taken. Our waitress drops off the beverages that my husband had ordered and she leaves saying she will be right back. 15 minutes go by and she comes back saying that our food will be right out. When I mentioned that we have yet to order, she gets confused and leaves again. Another 5 minutes go by and she returns saying that she's new and they're busy. Well, no kidding. She takes our order and disappears. We wait. And wait. And wait. She makes it a point to talk to her other tables about who is coming out next. She said nothing about it to us. Okay. No big deal. The waiting gave me an opportunity to look at the dining room floor & dish room. Ew. Seriously ew. We start to look around and see that everyone has their food except us and the two tables that had just sat down. This included the 6-top that was sat right after us. They were nearly done eating. Okay. It's Christmas and they're busy. We are patient people. We wait more. The food finally arrived and it wasn't correct. Rather than make a fuss, we ate the cold food we were served. We paid and left. If we stop in Paducah again, we will not eat at Steak'n Shake. The food was okay, it would have been better if it was hot. The shakes were great and the only reason for the two stars. 90 minutes is too long to wait for cold...
