We were here last year in June and the regular cooks must have all been off that day because if they weren't, the food we got was an insult, unless the kitchen staff thought they were slopping pigs that day. Google doesn't allow 0 stars.
With tip (the waiter did not do anything wrong, so I was not going to punish him for food I would not serve V. Putin) we spent over $120. My wife and oldest son had the obviously store bought, out of a bag, schnitzel with the smattering of fries where you could see through to the plate below. they had been over cooked and by the time we got them they were lukewarm. Those were $25 each, joyous. My other son had picked the fish and chips he said they were "alright" but for $20 he got 2 pieces of fish and also a very little bit of fries, and a small dollop of tarter sauce that looked like it had been sitting out for about an hour. Hopefully any bugs in the kitchen had not been sampling it. (Now it's $24 a 20% increase in a year when the cpi is less than 3%, I guess the restaurant got Covid too)
I always test a new restaurant with the selection of a Rueben sandwich, if they have one. If you can't make a good Rueben, you probably can't make anything else properly. The bread was slightly buttered and not grilled very well and the bottom was soggy to the point of being so wet that it looked like someone spilled water on the plate - not very enjoyable there. The corned beef had no flavor - so was either very old or came out of a grocery store package from Tyson or other pre-packaged lunch meat, the pieces all seemed a little too regular in shape - I don't think they cook it on premise - or at least not what I got that day. Also, the one they show on the menu now is not the one I got, the meat should be that thick when charging $20+, this one had the meat about 1/4 of an inch, maybe. The sauerkraut came straight out of a jar/can and it was probably green-stripe brand at that - no zip to it and they did not lit the juice drip off before they added it to the sandwich - which added to the sogginess of the bread. The menu says they use Thousand Island dressing but it did not taste like it, if it was a Thousand Island they use at Flanagan's it had turned or was really bad thousand ((or old maybe) and not very much of it). I almost forgot the cheese, which I think they did too, if they had any they used one really thin piece of it and I don't know if it was swiss which it should have been.
It's been a year - and it's still the worst Rueben I've had for quite awhile along with the rest of the meal. The other restaurants in that part of town pull the same trick - they charge a large sum for bad food and expect you to put up with it. Try the North side of town for better food and a little lower prices. We call it getting "Park Citied". It's like they don't even try to put out something edible.
The highlight of the meal, was the car that almost crashed into their outdoor seating area where we were at. The driver was oblivious, probably drunk, but I'm sure they got their text message sent as they squealed their tires as they brought their car to a halt...

Flanagan's on Main promises a genuine Irish pub experience, and in many ways, it delivers. During my recent visit, I made sure to sample some of their touted classics: the Fish and Chips, the Beer Batter Fries, and the Reuben Sandwich. Here's a breakdown of my experience:
The Fish and Chips: A Solid Foundation The cornerstone of any good Irish pub is its fish and chips, and Flanagan's rendition is certainly respectable. The fish, a generous portion of what appeared to be cod, was flaky and moist within its golden-brown crust. The batter itself was light and crispy, providing a satisfying crunch without being overly greasy. While it wasn't the absolute best fish and chips I've ever had, it was a solid, well-executed version that hit the spot. A squeeze of fresh lemon and a dollop of their tartar sauce (which was creamy and tangy) elevated the dish.
Beer Batter Fries: A Crispy Delight The beer batter fries were a definite highlight. These weren't your standard limp fries; they boasted a wonderfully crisp exterior thanks to the beer batter, giving way to a fluffy potato interior. The subtle hint of beer in the batter added a unique and enjoyable flavor profile that set them apart. They were perfectly seasoned and served in a generous portion – definitely a satisfying side and a step above your average pub fries. I could easily see myself ordering a basket of these on their own.
The Reuben Sandwich: A Hearty and Flavorful Stack The Reuben sandwich was another winner. Stacked high with tender, flavorful corned beef, tangy sauerkraut, creamy Swiss cheese, and a generous slather of Thousand Island dressing, it was a classic done right. The rye bread was perfectly toasted, providing a sturdy foundation for the ample fillings. The balance of flavors was excellent – the richness of the corned beef was cut nicely by the sauerkraut's tang and the Thousand Island's sweetness. It was a hearty and satisfying sandwich that left me feeling full and content.
Overall Impression: Flanagan's on Main offers a comfortable and inviting atmosphere, perfect for enjoying some classic pub fare. While the fish and chips were a solid offering, the beer batter fries truly stood out as exceptional. The Reuben sandwich was also a well-executed and flavorful choice. The service was friendly and efficient, adding to the overall positive experience.
If you're looking for a taste of Ireland in Provo, with reliable versions of pub staples and particularly noteworthy beer batter fries and a satisfying Reuben, Flanagan's on Main is definitely worth a visit. I'll certainly be back to enjoy those...
Read moreWe picked Flanagan's on Main as our St. Paddy's Day dinner destination and have no regrets. They were busy and overbooked but the staff was great! We waited about half an hour for a table to open up (others ahead of us who left had waited over an hour), unfortunately guests had no intention of leaving and who could blame them the atmosphere was so fun?! We saw a reserved booth open up and asked if it was available. The staff was hesitant to allow us to use it as it had only an hour until it's reservation was expected. I explained our friends had come from out of state, that we came up from SLC, and that we had tickets to the Jazz and no intention of hanging around like other patrons. They kindly agreed to let us have it if we agreed to give it up if the guests who had paid for it arrived early. It was no big deal, we ended up having the entire hour to eat and never felt rushed. We were served by an extremely friendly server who even stopped amid all the hustle to take a group picture for us. We received drinks/refills promptly, she checked on us several times throughout our meal. The food was delicious! It reminded us of our trip to Ireland. The table was pre bussed in a timely fashion and everyone we interacted with was wonderful. The prices are a bit high (especially $10 for all the kids meals and small portioned desserts) but thats to be expected when one goes to Park City. Definitely would recommend and plan to...
