We stopped in paso Robles for dinner at Basil Thai. Food was mostly disappointing. Almost everything is overpriced - a few more dollars more than most Thai restaurants in SF and NYC. We ordered $14 Seafood Tom yum soup, all we could find for seafood was baby squids and one or two small scallops and two mussels...not that awful for fish ingredients, except that the broth was too sweet, which ruined it. Their $16 BBQ chicken was way dry and a day or two old. Pretty disappointing. Only dishes I liked here were green papaya salad and tiger cry was ok to order too, so kudos to Judy for these good dishes. Judy was not present this evening. We like the people and most food in Paso Robles, but we will not come back to basil Thai. Still tipped the waitress-manager a good karma 15% and should've comped us back 50% on just the old chicken out of courtesy. She was fine and friendly as a waitress until we pointed out the chicken issue and she basically responded with a shove off and smile. Crappy attitude for this likely seasoned pro running the place that night. You're welcome for the courtesy tip and thanks for doing a good job serving us until the surprise pushback on the bad chicken. Why? Anyway, for sure Judy and her capable kitchen should cut out the overuse of sugars/sweeteners based on our review and others' reviews, and should cease serving these old...
Read moreCame to town to see the light field, 2 hour drive. Decided on this restaurant because it looked nice, and thai is generally quick. We sat at 645 at the same time as another table. By 730 the table next to ours who arrived at the same time was finished with their THIRD course, and then our appetizer arrived. Another table sat next to us after this ordered, received their appetizer ate it, received their entree and started that, then we got our entree. By 825 we got the check, waited again for someone to get the card, finally escaped and drove to the light show to be politely told they are no longer selling tickets for today. I understand that sometimes you are understaffed. But for the love of God. Keep the ticket order straight. I'm chalking this up to poor management. No one came to or table or made eye contact while we waited over an hour for food, and within 5 minutes of the entree arriving we had 4 visits asking how the food was. Next time when you know you messed up, at least swing by the table...
Read moreWith peace and love, this is not authentic Thai cuisine at all. Disappointed in the taste of everything we ordered: shrimp red curry, pineapple fried rice, and chili basil stir fry. The red curry was carrot sweet. There’s no taste or scent of coconut. The pineapple fried rice had too much turmeric and tasted more like Indian cuisine—-and it had two random cherry tomatoes that did nothing for improving the taste. The chili basil stir fry was the closest dish to being authentic, and close is still miles away. Basil is in the name of the dish - two small sprigs doesn’t justify calling it chili basil. Worst is the price we paid for this: $67! Maybe that’s why they decided to throw in….a small crumpled bag of Lay’s Wavy Potato Chips…could it be any more random? Nice customer service, but not enough to make up for the disappointing...
